2 Synopsis : This module provides an integrated foundation for understanding the engineering
mechanics in Statics, fundamental concepts of mechanics, units, vectors, force
system, couple system and rigid body. Application in structural analysis of trusses,
joint and in Dynamics, Kinematics of particles, kinetic of particles, and Kinematics of
rigid bodies.

9 Course Learning Outcome (CLO) :On successful completion of this module, you should be able to:

1. Apply and use the basic units in Mechanical calculations and the basic laws of
motion.

2. Determine the resultant of forces and solve elementary problems in static


equilibrium for 2D and 3D system of forces.

3. Analyse the trusses by the joint method and section method.

4. Apply the kinematics relationships between position, velocity, and acceleration


of a particle in rectilinear and curvilinear motion.

5. Solve elementary problems involving kinetics of particles including impact,


energy method, impulse and momentum
