MEETING IN A CAFE
JORDAN: Oh, hi, Gina. I’m doing good. What about you? I remember you studied psychology.
Where do you work?
GINA: I’m a children’s psychologist. I work full-time at a hospital. I have to attend to the
emotional, mental, and behavioral disorders that affect children. It’s a very demanding job
because children are treated differently than adults. Tell me a little bit about your current job.
What are your responsibilities
JORDAN: I’m a civil engineer. I work at the city hall of Lima. My role basically involves
translating designs onto the construction site, so my time is split between the office and the
site where I have to supervise and check the construction activities
JORDAN: Yeah, it’s a very rewarding job. It can be stressful sometimes though. There’s a great
sense of teamwork that comes through creating something and facing challenges together. If
you enjoy working with people to help solve problems that affect wider society, then go for it.
JORDAN: I work at a construction site since I was an apprentice. You know what? Every project
is different. I am currently working 50 hours, 5-day week. In a year’s time, I can be working
working nights in another part of the country, but it’s ok, it fulfills my salary expectations.
GINA: I can’t believe it. From my point of view, You have to be creative and work under
pressure doing overtime
JORDAN: Sure
GINA: I met him last week. He lost his job a month ago, he can’t find another job yet. Does he
work in your field?
JORDAN: I think can give him a chance. He has to send me his resume if there is something I
learned at UTP was to be empathic.
GINA: You’re right, not only were we trained professionally but also in values at UTP.
