1.0 SCOPE

1.1 The scope of this procedure is to describe the methods for coring on the hollow
core slab to provide MEP service line openings on all section or areas shown on
architectural drawings.

2.0 PURPOSE

The purpose of this Method statement is to establish guidelines addressing all the
requirements that might be necessary to assure that coring activities conform or
compromises the structural integrity of the hollow core slab. The purpose is also to
ensure that all works are done in full compliance with the applicable safety standards
and requirements.

5.0 RESPONSIBILITIES

5.1 The Technical Manager is responsible in reviewing that the operations


compromise the structural integrity of hollow core slab structures thru structural
design calculations.

5.2 The MEP Manager is responsible on identifying the exact location of MEP service
lines connection in co-ordination with the Builders Work lay-out plan.

5.3 The Construction Manager is over all responsible for the implementation of method
statement and ensures that his team of Engineers and foremen are aware of this
method statement and all the resources i.e human, material and equipments arae
available to carry out the work planned and without any delay.

5.4 The HSE Manager is responsible for reviewing this method statement, and to
ensure that all works are performed within the limits of applicable safety standards &
requirements.

5.5 The Site Engineer is responsible to ensure that coring works are carried out
according to the specifications and site requirements. And that no compromises are
done to the integrity of the hollow core structures. And to co-ordinate with the
surveyor and plan the survey works in advance as per the work sequence.

5.6 Foreman to carry out the work and the proper distribution of all the available
resources in co-ordination with the site engineer on a daily basis.

5.7 The Surveyor is responsible for providing or marking the location of the holes for
coring to be done.

5.8 The QA/QC Engineer is responsible to ensure that work has been done as per the
approved method statement, specification and drawings; Inspection are done as per
Inspection and Test Plan and offer works for Consultant inspection and approval.

5.9 The Safety Engineer is responsible to ensure that all safety precautions are in-
place and that all personnel on site are using the required Personal Protective
equipment. And also ensure all relevant permissions are available for the works.

6.0 EQUIPMENTS

6.1 Depending on the size of the area, site condition and accessibility, some if not all
of the equipment listed below are to be used;

 Drilling Machine (with all drill bit available sizes)


 Surveying Equipment – Transit Level
 Marker
 Grinder
 Concrete Cutter
 Tape Measure

7.0 HEALTH AND SAFETY HAZARDS

7.1 All PPEs, safety equipment shall be worn by the personnel at all times. Warning
devices and/ or flagman shall be deployed for vehicles & equipment.

7.2 If in case of any emergency, safety officer will be administered the emergency
arrangements as per the system, stop the work and reporting to Assembly Point
etc.

7.3 Safety signs, warning lights and tower lights (if working during nighttime) and
entry attendant will be provided during activities.

7.4 Fire precautions will be maintained in the site as per approved safety procedure.

7.5 Communication will be carried out in accordance with safety procedures and
reporting all issues at site.

7.6 The worksite shall be maintained in a clean and tidy condition directed as per the
Housekeeping (HSE) procedure.

8.0 PROCEDURE

8.1 Pilot hole to be drilled at the starting of the coring operation.

 Correct location of the tendons of hollow core slab to determine carefully to


avoid any risk to hit any tendon while coring.

 Technical department to confirm the integrity of the concrete topping when it is


casted with “Concrete Spacers” under the scaffolding.

8.2 75 mm concrete topping to be carried with services box out.

 After pouring the topping concrete , the construction team will raise the
scaffoldings up and put timber to distribute the loads

8.3 Future coring location to accommodate service penetrations will be communicated


To PCE to proceed for the openings.

9.0 MONITORING AND INSPECTION

Quality control inspector shall conduct regular monitoring and inspection to ensure that
the coring work activities are progressing and complying in accordance with the
approved method statement and as per project specifications or as per site requirements.
