CHAPTER V – SITE ANALYSIS AND DEVELOPENT PLAN

Site Analysis

Prior to the design phase, site analysis was an important first step that supplied information

on the site's assets and liabilities.

Difficulties were identified as well as solutions for these issues based on observations of the

project site's current physical state. It was used to determine the orientation of the building, the

placement of fenestration, and the utilization of significant landscape elements. The state of the

project site is depicted in the diagram below. The researcher concluded numerous features and

disciplines of site analysis in this study with the help of readings of diverse data obtained during the

research process.

Sun and Wind

When constructing a home or structure, the two most important aspects to consider are solar

and wind orientation.

The intensity of solar radiation affects the temperature of a building, which rises and falls

depending on its orientation. The sun rises east-northeast and sets west-south-west, according to the

researcher's observations of the present project site. In figure 29, the sun path example, it is

demonstrated in the arc-like route that the heat begins to develop in the area from less than 11:39

o'clock in the morning until 03:00 o'clock in the afternoon. This suggests that the south-western side

of the building need special attention in terms of heat insulation and sun shading strategies.

Although the project site has its limitations due to the current site location, wind direction

and velocity are also taken into account in this study. Wind speed and direction fluctuate more

widely than hourly averages at any particular site due to local terrain and other factors, and

instantaneous wind speed and direction vary more significantly than hourly averages.

Over the course of the year, the average hourly wind speed in Dulag varies significantly by

season.

2
From November 21 to April 14, the windier half of the year lasts 4.8 months, with average

wind speeds of more than 9.4 miles per hour. January is the windiest month in Dulag, with an average

hourly wind speed of 12.0 miles per hour.

From April 14 to November 21, the calmer season lasts 7.2 months. With an average hourly

wind speed of 6.9 miles per hour, June is the calmest month of the year in Dulag.

However, the researcher still put into consideration to incorporate techniques that breaks

strong wind gusts from tropical cyclones; and the conveyance and control of local wind, land breeze

and tropical easterlies to ensure cooling and ambience of the home.

The ability to communicate and understand the outside world is enhanced by views and

vantage points. In the midst of life's biggest stressors, it has a calming impact. The present location

is located in the inside and is adjacent to a coastline line. The following are the site conditions and

views (see figure 30):

 The site's frontage is along a Barangay road, which is considered a busy road that creates

noise pollution and numerous types of air pollution due to motor vehicles.

 On the right side of the project site, there is an alley that is used as a mean of access by

residents of the Barangay's interior zone.

 On the left side, there is an existing structure that houses the researcher's grandmother and is

connected to its boundary line.

 Furthermore, on the site's rear side, there is a residential building that is likewise connected

to the site's boundary line.

Research Data Application

The answer for the site circumstances as a result of multiple readings of the linked contexts is

reflected in the diagram above. The following are the remedies that were implemented into the

design:

 The carport in front of the building established an offset from the Barangay Road, which will

reduce noise transmission within the structure. The carport was constructed of concrete block

pavers with gaps for grasses and to reduce heat gain that radiates towards the structure.

 The natural wind stabilizers were deliberately placed where strong winds are likely to occur.

This is to reduce the amount of wind force that could cause harm to the building. The trees

also provided shade for the building, which helped to reduce heat absorption.

 The setback at the back was used as an open dirty kitchen and laundry area, with concrete

blocks in some sections to allow for the growth of greenery and serve as surface runoff

during the monsoon season.

 Materials used in the design comply to coastal considerations due to the location and

condition of the site. The majority of the materials that are incorporated to the design, have a

strong corrosion resistance and are of good quality.

 Because of the existing site conditions, the building's orientation was constrained, and the

frontage was determined to remain in its previous location. Interior space orientation,

strategic location of openings, and installation of home appurtenances and fittings were given

extra care in augmenting the design due to the current limits.

The studies during the site development phase influenced the project's design concepts, and

the researcher's observation and experiences strengthened the formation of these developmental

approaches.
