Child malnutrition levels in Lao PDR continue to be among the highest in Asia and, as a res en continue to die from preventable illnesses such as diarrhoea and id Vision is working to. improve child nutrition by promoting breastfeeding and good hygiene and to clean water and sanitation. The following summarises our main activities in this area in 2012: Addressed child malnutrition through intervention programmes that aim to quickly rehabilitate malnourished children, Malnourished children are given supplements that help them put on weight and the programme also teaches the parents about what food to give their children at different stages of development. Children are routinely monitored to ensure they are progressing and developing Q D) Protected mothers and children from a diseases and infection by supporting the Lao government's vaccination programme. World Vision provided a mobile clinic to administer immunisations and health supplements in target vilages, Children under five received immunisation shots for polio, hepatitis B, BCG (tuberculosis), diphtheria and measles, as well as de-worming and vitamin A treatments, Expectant mothers received tetanus shots and improved access to pre- and post-natal care including phy checkups. Improved sanitation and access to clean water to reduce the spread of communicable and seasonal diseases. This included installing water and sewage systems as ‘well as educating the broader community on haw to reduce the spread of diseases. World Vision also trained villagers on how to construct and repair latrines and water tanks. These activities have reduced the instances of illness resulting from consuming dirty water and communicable diseases. Trained village health workers to provide basic healthcare services at a village level. The health workers were trained by World Vision with support from the District Health Office.
