4. PURPOSE
4.1. It is a policy of Burjeel Medical City to provide the emergency care services to the medico-legal
cases as per Government/SEHA rules and regulations.

8. RESPONSIBILITIES
8.1. It is the responsibility of the Medical and Nursing Director to ensure full implementation of this policy.
8.2. It is the responsibility of Head of Department, Nurse Manager and Nurse Supervisor to monitor and
ensure the compliance of this policy.
8.3. It is the responsibility of all medical staff to comply with this policy.
9. PROCEDURE
Procedure Sequence:
9.1. The Medical Director or the duty manager should be notified immediately by Emergency Physician
of any Medico Legal cases.
9.2. Initial patient stabilization should be done in the emergency department by the Emergency
Physician.
9.3. Whenever appropriate, patient’s consent should be taken by the treating emergency physician.
9.4. Proper history and physical examination by emergency physician.
9.5. Careful identification and documentation of injuries by the treating physician.
9.6. Whenever required further consultations should be done and documented by the treating
emergency physician.
9.7. Medico legal evidence should be carefully identified, sealed, labeled and kept in safe custody by
security officer.
9.8. Medical director/manager on duty must notify the security supervisor and police department
9.9. If further medico-legal examination and/or further treatment are required, the patient should be
transferred to the relevant ministry of health hospital by the attending emergency physician if
needed.
9.10. If the police requested Medical Legal Form, the emergency physician should refer the patient to
SKMC/SEHA hospital.
9.11. Medico-legal case register should be maintained and kept in ER by the ED Coordinator/Head
Nurse
