 ENVIRONMENTAL STATEMENT
Sitio Marahuyo meaning "a spot to be attracted for" is a land reclamation project located underneath the city proper of
Iloilo City, Philippines. The project's goal is to create a university belt system that will house 10 different specialized
schools or universities within the city while incorporating design typologies such as recreational parks, business
districts, cohousing residential, education, and transportation hubs to help generate jobs and proper education for the
people of Iloilo while providing a sustainable environment.

Part of the plan in the project's urban design of the built environment refers to the system of spatial relationships
structured through the configuration of communities, neighbourhoods and a city that determine a great proportion of
resource use through, for example, transport and education. The lifetime of most of the physical structures of our
constructed world can make change slow, a significant problem in achieving a more sustainable existence. As it features
a linear park located at the heart of the masterplan that connects the north and south sides of the city. The linear park's
primary objectives are to encourage the use of environmentally friendly modes of transportation including biking and
walking and to promote health and wellness within the community by offering recreational spaces.

Sitio Marahuyo's development is indeed a ‘great news story’ and the demonstrated potential towards the production
processes of a sustainable city development, products and infrastructure, to gain ‘win-win’ outcomes (a win for the
environment and a win for business or the economy) is surely playing an important part in the current paradigm shift.
