Chapter 2 Appendix
1 Service Licensing
1.1 Overview
Secure Service Access (SSA) is a secure service key platform for GE medical devices
developed to improve the service license renewal and replacement processes. The SSA license
is a softkey (software file) for GE service tools and information. This license is assigned to one
specific system and can be downloaded by GE customers or service providers.
GE field engineers receive a hardkey (USB drive) service license, providing access to
proprietary service tools and documentation. Field engineers may also be asked to help
customers request or renew their service license softkey.
Multiple service license levels are available to manage access to different features, tools, and
service methods. Contact your local GE service or sales representative for more information.
Sites must generate and install a service license for the following reasons:
• New system Installation
• Software upgrade
Chapter 2 Appendix 27
SIGNA Creator / SIGNA Explorer Software Upgrade Instruction (SV25.0 to SV25.1)
Direction 5746775-1EN, Revision 3
NOTE: This example displays each level of service class license. Only the service license
level available for a given system will display in that system’s window.
1.3 Order Service License Softkey (Systems Not Under GE Service Contract)
To request a service license softkey, the customer must contact the local GE service center by
telephone. The telephone number can be found on the system tag. The local service center
collects the site information and forwards the request to the regional representative for approval.
When calling, the customer must have the following information ready:
• Customer name and location
• Service License ID
28 1 Service Licensing
SIGNA Creator / SIGNA Explorer Software Upgrade Instruction (SV25.0 to SV25.1)
Direction 5746775-1EN, Revision 3
After the request is submitted, the license is typically approved by the regional representative
within three business days. Load the license softkey on the system as described below.
For urgent situations, a temporary 3-day license can be requested from GE Online Center for
use during the waiting period.
The service license softkey expires in one year from the date created. The GE field engineer is
not responsible for customer service license renewal after warranty.
1.4 Load Service License Softkey
1. After the request is approved, an email is sent to the email address provided with the
request. Use the email link to download the license softkey.
2. To transfer the software license file to the system, save the license on either a USB stick or
DVD.
Multiple license softkeys can be saved to the same USB stick or DVD.
3. To access the Service License ID, go to the operator console, click the drop-down arrow on
the Tools icon, and select Install Service License.
4. Insert the USB stick or DVD where you saved the license softkey, and select [CD/DVD] or
[USB].
The system will automatically load the correct license softkey for a given system ID.
5. Select the language for the system.
The system language must be decided before getting the service license ID. If the language
is changed on the system, it will also change the 16-digit Service License ID assigned to the
system and cause the existing license to fail.
If the 16 digit code has changed and the existing license will not work, go to the SSA
Support Central website (http://supportcentral.ge.com/@ssakey) and open a case.
6. When the installation is finished, eject the USB key correctly (using the Eject button) so it
does not become corrupted.
NOTE: If a softkey has unexpectedly stopped working, check the time and date on the
system. If the date or time has been changed, this causes the softkey to stop working.
Change the date and time back to the previous setting to correct the issue.
1.5 Create or Renew Softkey for Customers
This procedure is for field engineers assisting customers in requesting or renewing a service
license softkey.
NOTE: GE FE personnel are not responsible for renewing customer licenses if the customer
no longer has a GE service contract.
1. Go to the SSA website (http://ssa.gehealthcare.com). Log in with your SSO and password.
2. Request a new or renewed softkey:
Chapter 2 Appendix 29
SIGNA Creator / SIGNA Explorer Software Upgrade Instruction (SV25.0 to SV25.1)
Direction 5746775-1EN, Revision 3
• Register as a valid user of the SSA platform. Go to the SSA website (http://
ssa.gehealthcare.com) and confirm that you have access for the MR modality (and any
other modality for which you have been trained). If you do not have access to the SSA
website, go to the SSA Support Central website (http://supportcentral.ge.com/@ssakey) to
request access to modalities for which you have been trained.
Be sure to always remove the USB key correctly (using the Eject button) so it does not become
corrupted.
NOTE: If a hardkey has unexpectedly stopped working, check the time and date on the
system. If the date or time has been changed, this causes the hardkey to stop
working. Renew the hardkey to correct the issue.

• Reprogramming a system
• Troubleshooting
Generate SSA License button through ISD does not reinstall if it expires.
If the OLE generated a 2 hour OLC SSA License key, and support extends greater than 2 hours
and the license expires, the OLE must close the Telnet session, re-connect to the site, then click
the SSA button again.
The 16-digit code will change with the language of the system.
Before generating any SSA soft license key, confirm that the system is set to the final language
configuration that will be used at the site.
Date/time tampering
The SSA key will become invalid if the system clock is changed in an attempt to try to extend
the life of an SSA license. Any attempt to backdate the system date/time will lock the system
(the SSA license will be invalidated). To recover, perform a LFC. A time change tolerance limit
of 45 minutes for OLE license is applicable if NTP is not configured on the system, and the
system time is in the past. Standard and Daylight Saving changes are not affected.
Before the OLE can use a 2 hour OLC SSA key, the system information must be in the back-
office database.
The Field Engineer must enter the back office information during the system installation or
upgrade, using the standard process so that the OLE can use a 2 hour OLC SSA key. If the FE
has not created a soft license for the system and requires OLC support, the OLE must manually
create a temporary key using the Create softkey by admin option.

3 Check Scan
The following describes a workflow to follow when you need to perform a basic scan, such as a
“goodbye scan” or “check scan”. It uses the 3-plane 2D localizer scan, which is relatively simple
to set up and perform.
Other scans may involve additional setup and configuration. If you choose to use a different
scan, consult the Operator Manual for the system you are using. The 3-plane localizer scan
using the DQA phantom gives the best confidence of correct system functionality by showing
correct image geometry and orientation. This is especially useful if work performed involved

4.2 Overview
This procedure describes how to generate and install software options using eLicense. eLicense
allows the field to generate license keys for MR scanners, and removes the need to send out
physical media for all options on the order. The first step in creating these option keys is to visit
the eLicense website, and register the scanner. In order to access the eLicense website, the
user must have a computer with connectivity, as well as a single sign-on account. The eLicense
website can be accessed outside of the GE intranet, at http://elicense.gehealthcare.com/
elicense/. The MR system must be tied to the global order number (GON), through the host id
and system id of the scanner. Once this site information has been entered, the keys can be
generated, and distributed by email, downloading, saving to an eCD, or printing. This file can
then be installed on the system, through inSite download eCD, or manual entry. Illustration 1-1
shows the eLicense process flow. For additional information on how to generate and obtain
these keys from the eLicense server, please refer to the “eLicense User Guide” under the HELP
tab of the eLicense website.
4.3 Procedure
4.3.1 Create Licenses
This feature is used to create option keys for a new or existing system based on an order. To
create new licenses, the user must have the order number(s) that contain the options ordered,
as well as the host id and system id of the system. The host id is the MAC address of the
network card.
4.3.1.1 Obtaining the System’s Host ID
1. Select the[Service Tools Desktop].
2. Select [Guided Install] from the Service Desktop Manager and press [Start…] to open
Guided Install.
3. A command window will open with “Type Root Password” displayed. Type the system’s root
password and then press the [Enter] key. “operator” is the Signa default root password. If,
for your site, the customer has changed the root password, you will have to obtain the
correct root password from the customer.
Chapter 2 Appendix 41
SIGNA Creator / SIGNA Explorer Software Upgrade Instruction (SV25.0 to SV25.1)
Direction 5746775-1EN, Revision 3
4. Once the Guided Install window opens, select the Option Keys tab. The host ID will be listed
towards the bottom under the Install Temporary Service Key section. See Illustration 2-9.
Illustration 2-9: GUIDED INSTALL WINDOW WITH HOST ID
5. Another method of obtaining the host ID is to type “sysinfo” at a command prompt. The host
ID will be returned.
NOTE: “hostid” is NOT the valid command to get your Host ID. This will cause an error
when trying to generate keys, due to the incorrect host id. You MUST use the
methods listed above to get a valid id.
4.3.1.2 Adding a System to an Order
1. Go to the eLicense website http://elicense.gehealthcare.com/ and log on using your single
sign-on username and password.
2. From the eLicense home page, enter the order number into the Order Number box and
select [Go]. See Illustration 2-10. This will pull up the order associated with the number
entered from the eOM system. The order number may be a new global order number, or an
FDO number, depending on when the order was placed. This number will be listed on the
packing slip included with the order.
3. It is possible that the order number is not unique to your customer. If this is the case, a
screen will pop up listing all matching sites. Illustration 2-11 shows this Site Selection
screen. Select the radial button next to the desired system and select [Go]. This will pull up
the order and take you to Illustration 2-12. If the order number is unique, eLicense will
automatically bring up the order and take you to the Order Information Screen.

5 Security Levels
To access HIPAA/Security Levels, launch Guided Install from the Service Desktop Manager and
select the HIPAA/Security tab.
The HIPAA security screen is mandatory for SV25.1 and later systems. The HIPAA screen is
optional for all SV25.0 and earlier systems.
There are three different levels of security settings available (below). Typical Security Settings is
the recommended security level unless the customer has system-networked options, such as
FUS, BrainWave (with STIM PC), CADStream, MR Touch, or other third-party devices. In that
case, select Security settings for systems networked to certain optional devices.
Illustration 2-41: HIPAA/Security Levels
Definitions:
• Role-based authorization: It is possible to control access to various system features such as
choosing higher level of SAR, setting custom system preferences, and/or protocol
management and limit it to a specific group of users.
• SAR management: Enables the operator to choose second level SAR while scanning.

• User account management: Customers can add or delete users by selecting [User
Accounts] on the Service Desktop Manager screen.
• Third-party devices: FUS, BrainWave, CADStream and others. If a third-party device does
not work properly with the MR system at the Security settings for systems networked to
certain optional devices security level, follow the normal field escalation process to get this
resolved. The third-party vendor may need to fix their device to match the security standards
that the GE MR system expects.
SIGNATM Secure Advanced Typical Security Settings (most Security settings for systems
