Fluency Activities
GOALS
Through the module on Fluency Activities you learn how to set up performance activities that
confirm the students’ learning goals, lesson by lesson. You become familiar with a range of
activities we use during the performance phases of a lesson.
WORKSHEET INSTRUCTIONS (TWO OPTIONS)
This worksheet will help you internalize the key ideas and techniques. It is your ‘take-away’ from
the session. FOR BLENDED: Fill in this worksheet as you study the online module. Take the
worksheet to the Live Activation Session with your program facilitator. You will use and complete
the worksheet during the session. FOR FULL F2F: Use this worksheet during the sessions.

Why do we include lots of fluency activities in our lessons? How often (as a
minimum) should a fluency activity be set up in a lesson?

What variety of fluency activities possible? Note down all the types of activity that
you can think of.

How can we set up fluency activities to ensure that students are engaged and
speaking, not silent!

What are the GOLDEN RULES for providing feedback to students on their performance during
fluency activities? Choose the right answer each time.
Provide feedback and correction AFTER / DURING the fluency activity.
Start the feedback session by TALKING ABOUT MISTAKES / GIVING PRAISE.
ASK / DON’T ASK the students how they felt about their performance.
Go through EVERY / SELECTED mistakes.
As often as possible PROVIDE INSTRUCTOR-LED CORRECTION / ELICIT SELF-CORRECTION.

Fluency activities are GOAL-ACHIEVEMENT activities in lessons. Read the example
