TEAM DEVELOPMENT ESSAY 1

Team experience from the past

I have always been very passionate about working with areas related to the fashion industry,
but this was one of my most recent and exciting experiences. Being a part of the organizing
team for the vogue wedding show in Delhi, India was a great chance for me to learn team
building values. This event took place in a very well-known hotel in Delhi and the show lasted
for around 6 days. Weddings hold a very special place for big Indian families and this event is
planned for those families looking to find everything under one roof. From luxury designers,
jewelry house, décor experts to hair and make-up artists, this invite-only event marked the
beginning of the wedding season last year. I was selected to be in the organizing team with a
few other girls around the same age group as me to work the event, given responsibilities such
as explaining the event, the location for each brand and the most important part where we
were given five royal families per day to assist with their shopping. This mainly meant that we
were their personal assists and were always contributing to their ideas and needed to maintain
a relationship with each family member throughout the show. This meant being one call away
and having answers to all their queries even the ones we might need to clarify or confirm with
our other team members.

Since it was an invite-only event, we knew only royal Indian families were invited to this event
and these guests needed to be treated the best possible way. We as individuals didn’t know
each other at all but didn’t let that come into our way of having to communicate with each
other to complete the tasks given to us. I knew I had been selected on my merit and needed to
fulfil that to achieve the goal. We didn’t necessarily have a leader but were to work as. A team
to do our jobs well by the end of the day. Working in an environment with professionals around
us, we needed to maintain a high level of team excellence and coordinate and solve our
problems efficiently. Every morning we needed to motivate each other to get through the day
with determination. Being a member of this team, with unknown people was not easy from the
start, We faced difficulties maintaining group norms, consulting each other, handling issues but
slowly realized with the distribution of tasks, facilitating work or alignment but with the passing
of days, we learnt the necessity of harnessing our strengths and weaknesses, being fair towards
each member of the group, accomplishing work with deadlines and developing a strategy to be
committed to the target and outcome.

I learnt very productive qualities throughout this experience which included encouraging
participation, planning and the most important that, being a team member and team leader is
on the same level. One always needs to cooperate and create positive relationships withholding
their team spirit to succeed. I was very thankful for this opportunity which have made me
familiar with team building and have been able to use it in my life forward.
