Degree
1. Admission
a) Master’s degree programme shall commence in Spring and Fall semesters i.e.,
twice in an academic year.
b) Candidates seeking admission must have a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant Engineering
discipline from an institution accredited by Pakistan Engineering Council or Sixteen (16)
years of education for Non-Engineering disciplines from an institution recognized by
HEC.
c) Candidates seeking admission must score 50% minimum marks in GRE International
type test or GAT (General) organized by University Appointed Testing Authority
(UATA).
d) Applications on the prescribed form shall be made to the Director Admissions, on the
date advertised in newspapers, after which no application shall be entertained.
e) Seats for Pakistani students are given in Table-1 page-228 of prospectus 2019-20. 50% of
the total allocated seats in each category (i.e. Open/Rationalized) will be filled during
Fall semester, and remaining will be filled during Spring semester.
f) Candidates shall have to pass departmental subject and UATA test with at least 50%
marks. Final merit shall be made based on the combined results of UATA marks and the
departmental test in the following manner:
GRE International / GAT (General) Test conducted by UATA = 50% weightage.
Departmental Subject Test = 50 % Weightage.
g) The UATA (GAT General)/UATA (UET GAT Special) tests shall be valid for one
academic year (two semesters i.e Spring & Fall or Fall & Spring) while subject test shall
be conducted each time admission is offered.
Note: Exact number of open merit seats as per semester quota will be offered in each semester.
Furthermore, if an open merit seat remains vacant in Fall semester then it shall be added to the
quota of open merit seats to be offered in Spring semester.
2. Course Work
A student shall not be allowed to take more than three courses per semester.
The Master's degree programme at University of Engineering and Technology shall
extend over a period of at least four semesters. A total of 33 credit hours (including 27
credit hours of courses and 6 credit hours of research) are required to complete the
Master’s Degree Programme. The 27 credit hours of course work shall include a
minimum of 18 credit hours from the core area of specialization and 3 credit hours of the
course "Research Methodology". This course will be registered as credit course.
a) The M.Sc. research proposal (submitted by a student at the end of second semester of
his/her Postgraduate Studies) shall be initially vetted by Project Research Evaluation
Committee (PREC), formally constituted for each specialization in each discipline before
recommending it to the BOASAR office for final approval. The chairman of the
department concerned will recommend the names of three faculty members
(including Postgraduate Advisor) holding Ph.D. degrees for constitution of PREC for
approval of the Vice Chancellor through Secretary (BOASAR). The Chairman of the
concerned department will act as a convener of the PREC. The PREC will be
reconstituted after a period of one year. The Chairman of the concerned department may
recommend a Ph.D. faculty member, expert in the relevant area, to act as member (co-
opted) for the PREC.
b) Any subsequent changes in the proposal, title or the topic shall also be routed through the
same channel.
c) The candidate may request for change in MS supervisor or a supervisor may opt to
withdraw from supervision of a candidate. The candidate or the supervisor shall submit
their request to the chairperson concerned. Recommendation for change of supervisor
will be made by PREC of the department through Dean concerned for approval by
BOASAR. No relaxation in maximum allowable time for completion of MS degree
would be granted to the candidate on the basis that his supervisor has changed.
4. Pre-defense Examination
a) Before applying for pre-defense examination, please ensure the following;
To be eligible for graduation, a student must have a CGPA of at least 2.67 (B-) in
course work and Master Degree Program satisfactory grade (S) in research. (PG
Prospectus 2019-20: Section: 1.10.a)
A student must complete at least 27 credit hours of course work which must
include 18 credit hours from the core area of specialization and 3 credit hours of
the course “Research Methodology”. (PG Prospectus 2019: Section: 1.13.a).
b) For pre-defense prepare a presentation of your research work, approve it from your
supervisor.
c) After approval, submit hard copy of your presentation to each member of Post Graduate
Research Evaluation Committee (PREC). They will assign you time and date for your
pre-defense presentation.
5. Pre-defense Examination
a) After successful Pre defense, produce a seminar report (template is available on
Postgraduate electronic notice board).
b) You will need to submit the following documents to Director Post Graduate Studies
(DPGS) for the conduction of Final Defense Examination;
BOASAR Notification
Seminar report
Departmental Plagiarism report (Available on Postgraduate electronic notice
board)
Letter for nomination of Internal / External Examiners in consultation with
supervisor (Available on Postgraduate electronic notice board)
Interim Transcript complete in all respect having grades of all subjects
Two ring binded thesis copies checked by supervisor
c) Submit all the above-mentioned documents to the Directorate of Post Graduate Studies
(DPGS) through Civil Deptt office.
d) The DGPS will issue a notification regarding final defense examination and will send it
to the Dean faculty of CAM Engg. The Dean faculty of CAM Engg will forward it to the
Deputy Registrar Operational (DRO). The DRO will forward it to the Vice-Chancellor.
The Vice-Chancellor will send it back to the Dean. Finally, the Dean faculty of CAM
Engg will forward it to the director academic operational (DRO) for final Defense
Examination in respect of M.Sc. student having Internal / External examiners nomination.
e) After this notification defense exam date will be fixed by examiners. Make sure to have
T-3 form and get it signed from the defense examiners after successful final defense.
f) Also prepare and sign the M.Sc. defense examination bills (Available in Download
section of Postgraduate studies on UET Peshawar website) from external/Internal and
supervisor after successful final defense.
NOTE: T-3 form, bills etc are available at UET website Post graduate Downloads
section.
Note: Submit the degree form in Civil Engineering Coordinator Office For Masters and
PhD. Once your M.Sc. file is completed, the DPGS office will generate a notification of
your degree.
