Lesson Title Steps of solving a quadratic
Content Area Algebra 1&2 .

Content Standards A.PAR.6.3 Create and solve quadratic equations in one variable and
explain the solution in the framework of applicable phenomena.
Technology Standards 1.3c Students curate information from digital resources using a variety of
tools and methods to create collections of artifacts that
demonstrate meaningful connections or conclusions.
1.5 c Students break problems into component parts, extract key
information, and develop descriptive models to understand complex
systems or facilitate problem-solving.
Integrated Technology Google slides or Microsoft PowerPoint .
Bloom’s Taxonomy Understanding, Applying, Analyzing,
Levels
Integration Level Level 2: Exploration,.
Universal Design Students can pick their own equation to work on and students that want to
Rationale can use a graphing calculator to find the factors. Students have access to all
different methods to solve the factors of any level of equation they want to
solve.
Lesson Idea Students will choose, out of a few different options of equations, to factor a
step at a time. Each slide of the equation will be a step in solving the equation
for its roots. Finally, students will present their equation to class and explain
each step and why did they do that specific step at that time in the process.
I will observe them and help as needed but this is a project steered by them.
I want this to be a review of factoring and solving for the roots of the equation.
It will take a day or two to complete and then they present and this will be
assessed by the explanations they give and I will offer feedback on their
presentation grade. To differentiate students will pick their own equation and
tools they use to find the factors. This also helps with extending to higher
learning as students can choose harder problems that I will identify if they
want a challenge.

Design Reflection How do you feel the activities you created could impact student learning?
For all students this is a great review for deeper learning and this gets them
to really consider why they are doing each step.
You may have designed this idea as an introductory activity to a unit of study.
With that in mind, what could be done to further extend the lesson?
I could have added imaginary solutions so they can make the connection on
the graph with imaginary numbers
Are there other technology tools that could further enhance this project?
Desmos is a great resource
