First week

On the first week of the training, I was in mixed emotions. I feel so

excited and a bit of nervous. Nervous because I do not know whom I
will be around with. Excitement knowing learnings and privileges
awaited me. On the first day, I attended the morning briefing and it was
a little bit relieving because they gave us warmth welcome as we
introduce ourselves. During the briefing they talk about the happenings
and condition in the production. There, the supervisors announce
claims and needs to be done prior that day. Everyone was informed the
rooms occupancy, total departed, and arrivals including total rooms
rate within that day. Room attendants have their worksheets with them
upon cleaning of rooms. They were being assigned to two floors. Some
of them got seventeen vacant dirty rooms and some have only few
vacant dirty rooms. On- the job trainees were assigned to designated
room attendant to be trained. We end the week with learnings.

Second week

The second week of the training was also a challenging week

for trainees. We are assigned in cleaning bathroom and doing
guests’ delivery from the other floor to rooms. Some of the
guests asking a request of complementary water and some
requested for toiletries. I do not feel tired but it gives me more
courage to learn some more things for that day. I was
challenged because I see how diligent Fatima, one of my room
attendant trainers during my training, the she handles multi-
tasking. I learned that time management factors a lot including
having complete amenities in the trolley matters most in
achieving the target.

Third week

The third week of the training help me to adjust the work style and
techniques. As we know that cleaning in the room with high numbers of
vacant dirty rooms of the room attendant must work faster with
quality. Same as usual we are assigned in cleaning the bathroom.
Familiarize with guests’ amenities inside the bathroom is also one of
our tasks. Bathroom in the room has different set-up depends of the
room status. By then, it must be set-up accordingly. I was assigned to
higher floors wherein the rooms are mostly for very important person
and also rooms are big with two toilet and a tub. It has also proper
handling of soiled linen in which it should not be down to chute instead
gathered it for laundry.

Fourth week

It was the fourth week and we have reached a month of our training. I
was happy and still willing to learn. The morning briefing challenge
everyone to do our best of the day to meet the target of getting no
vacant dirty rooms after the shift. I was so amazed that after the hard
work that we have made, someone appreciates and call your name
saying thank you. I also got a tip. Cleaning the bathrooms, replenishing
guests’ amenities including towels then vacuuming the carpet. It was
more challenging when you need to go to other floors to borrow
vacuum because the floor you are assigned at do not have vacuum. The
fourth week end satisfying because I conquer the challenge and well
done.

Fifth week
In my fifth week of the training supervisors discuss first
what we have to do and what are the tasks that would be
assigned to us.

The supervisors assigned me to the 11th and 12th floor

together with room attendant. Before starting the
cleaning, things must be done first like cleaning of guest
landing and things must be
prepared first in the trolley. Amenities should be set and
organize. We had high occupancy for that week. But then
again, with passion, dedication and teamwork still job
well done.

Sixth week

On sixth week of the training the challenge become more

exciting and bit of nervous. After the morning briefing the
supervisor assign me to laundry and some of the days in the
week assign me to public areas.

Cleaning of bathrooms in the public areas and being expose

with different guests is one of the challenging factors as a
housekeeper. Every now and then, I have to check the toilet
bowl because there were times that guest does not know how
to flush because of button that is really hard push. I also need
to maintain replenishing toilet tissue roll and hand tissue.
Collecting of garbage must be not forgotten.

Seventh week

The seventh week of the training and I was assigned at the

laundry. During my first day assign at the laundry I was thankful
because the people there are so amazingly good and train me
the proper way of flatwork ironing and also proper way of
steaming employees’ uniform.

I learned the process of washing and drying of clothes. After

that, employees’ uniform must be hanged accordingly to
storage uniform area. Then collecting of hanger and
segregating of soiled uniform according to colors. I was also
task to linen delivery and at the end of the shift, I also task to
guests’ laundry delivery.

Eighth week
This eighth week gave me the eagerness to discover what else I
need to learn during my training in Radisson blu-hotel Cebu.
Everyday considered a big privilege for me to learn. I was
assigned at the public area. One of the employees in the public
area task me to vacuum the foyer at Santa Maria function. My
willingness to learn gives me courage to accept the task.

It was satisfying when you accomplish works and knowing you

do your tasks with effort. After I vacuum the carpet, I offer to
help in cleaning the feria. There I see how spacious the area
and I started to sweep ensuring that there is no grain of rice
left. I seldom visiting public restrooms also.

Ninth week
On the ninth weeks of my training still assign to rooms, laundry
or public areas. All of these areas are very important in the
establishment. In the room I experience not only in cleaning
rooms but also in doing bed making. Bed is one of the most
guests’ good impressions upon entering the room. When I do
the bed making, I make sure it is free from wrinkle and stains
and pillow cases did not smell bad. I also do the dusting and
checking amenities for replenish.

In cleaning it is also highlighted during the morning briefing to

check the edges in the room especially the under the bed and
possible lost and found items. ensure that during stripping of
bed nothing is being included to chute specially tv remote
control that is mostly occurring at the laundry area chute.

Tenth week
The tenth week of the training is nearer on-the job training
completion . we have learned the tips on how to work faster in
cleaning the bathroom. The proper way of cleaning the rooms.
During the morning briefing ma’am Helen announces the that
trainees must have boundaries in accessing rooms especially
those rooms that are being occupied by the guests. By then, we
are not longer allowed to join the cleaning of make-up rooms.

In fact, we are tasks to do the bed making instead. Then, do the

dusting. She also suggested that it would be better for us
trainees to also engage and be mastered in bed making instead
of always cleaning the bathroom.

Eleventh week
On the eleventh weeks of the training, it was also more
challenging as we are about to complete the 600 hours of the
required hours training. We have learned things like ow to deal
with complaining guest. I learned that being a room attendant
you have the passion so you won’t get tired and you can give
your all instead. I also learned during public area, I encountered
various of chemicals which mostly I did not encounter before
when I was assigned in rooms or even at the laundry.

Chemicals must be familiarized before using because it can

cause damage to surface you applied with. I also learned that in
toilet bowl we have what we called go getter to use. Chemicals
have assigned area to use and sometimes better to dilute
before using because it is mush expensive and better to use
with water.

Twelfth week

The 12th week of the training were also in mixed emotion

because in this week already preparing our requirement of our
completion. I am happy in my 12 weeks I can say that I do good
during my training because I absolutely learned things which
will be useful for my future work, I am partly wondering how
would be my evaluation result
In my 12 weeks never been late and never been absent I am
proud of myself for conquering the challenge accepted three
months ago. Radisson blu-hotel Cebu is one of my preferably
hotels to have the training. I am so grateful being part of the
team Radisson blu-hotel Cebu. The spacious and elegant hotel I
have known. That somehow in my journey I have been trained
well and experience the goodness of the staff and a very
accommodating department the housekeeping family.
