Invitation
The world has been experiencing a revival of economic nationalism in recent
years. The most prominent manifestations of this trend are the election of
Donald J. Trump as the 45th President of the United States on the platform of
“Make America Great Again” as well as the outcome of the Brexit referendum.
This new wave of economic nationalism—intertwined with populism—poses
a serious threat to the liberal international order that has been mainstream
since World War II, whose key elements are economic openness and
multilateral institutions (Ikenberry, 2018).

This one-day seminar titled “Globalization at the Crossroads: Current

Challenges and Future Prospects” will bring together world-renowned experts
from different fields to discuss the current challenges of globalization and
assess its future prospects. The seminar will revolve around three main themes:
(i) Economic Challenges and Global Economic order and (ii) Socio-Political
Challenges and Global Governance, and (iii) Regionalism versus Multilateralism.
