PRODUCT MARKINGS
The certified system and/or components must have labels that identify the
system/components as certified.
Class I Division 2
This label has a UL Recognized Component marking for the U.S. and Canada which
includes the “C” and “US” identifiers, UL Recognized Component symbol, and Detroit
Diesel’s product designation “Detroit Diesel Electronic Control System (DDEC IV).
Operator information in local languages, proper shielding and labeling, etc. is not required to be included
with or installed on bare engines. As an engine manufacturer, DDC must be able to supply engines that
may be incorporated into a machine that meets the Machinery Directive requirements. This includes
providing written notice of the potential dangers of engine usage and operating instructions in local EU
languages. The Engine Operator's Guides are appropriate and complete for warning and instruction
information. DDC must only be able to support a manufacturer of machinery in completing appropriate
warning labels and instructions for the complete machine.
Also, the EMC directive for Electro-Magnetic Compatibility 89/336/EC does not require EC labeling by a
component. The DDEC group has letters for both the DDEC III and IV systems that explain the EMC
directive requirements and provide detailed test data regarding the full spectrum of radiated and
conducted emissions. Machine manufacturers can use the information to determine if their complete
electrical systems will meet the directive requirements.
Bare engines do not require an EC label or other special certification relating to EC Directives.
