A fe,v ,vords are necessary to explain the format of our Catalogue.

Unlike the North American one, this Catalogue will be issued in fasci-
<eles, each one treating a single family.
The Neotropical fauna is being actively studied; were ,ve to ,vait
.for the preparation of all manuscripts in arder to publish the Catalogue
in one single volume. 1nany of the treatments ,vould have become
obsolete at the time of publication. On the other hand, supplementat .ion
s. nd substitution of individual fascicles are much easier.
Fascicles ,vill be num hered according to the systematic arrangement
of the families but publisbed as soon as available, regardless of the
sequence.
With some n1inor modifications, the format proper follo,vs that of
the North American Catalogue in order to permit concomitant use of
ôoth.
