TIRES ON WHEEL ASSEMBLIES WITH MISSING, BROKEN OR LOOSE TIE- BOLTS MUST BE
DEFLATED BEFORE AXLE NUT IS LOOSENED. FAILURE TO DEFLATE TIRE BEFORE AXLE NUT IS
REMOVED CAN RESULT IN INJURY SHOULD WHEEL SEPARATE.

NOTE
On right center instrument-panel 400VU, make sure that the brake pressure indication on the
Yellow brake-pressure triple indicator is correct.
If necessary, pressurize the brake accumulator with the Yellow pump 29-10-00-863-002

WARNING
DECREASE THE TIRE PRESSURE TO APPROXIMATELY 2 BAR (29 PSI) BEFORE YOU REMOVE THE

NOTE
If you must remove the wheel for access or inspections, it is not necessary to deflate the tire if:
• The tire is in the correct condition.
• The tire pressure is in the normal operating range 32-41-00-210-003
32-41-00-210-003-A .
If these two conditions are not correct, it is necessary to decrease the tire
pressure.
(a) Remove the cap (51) from the inflation valve (50).
(b) Attach the ADAPTER - TIRE INFLATION/DEFLATION to the inflation valve (50).
(c) Decrease the tire pressure until the pressure gage of the ADAPTER - TIRE
INFLATION/DEFLATION shows between 1.79 bar (26 psi) and 2.20 bar (32 psi).
(d) Remove the ADAPTER - TIRE INFLATION/DEFLATION .
(e) Put the cap (51) on the inflation valve (50) and tighten it.

(1) Remove the fan.
(a) Remove the screws (15) and the washers (14).
(b) Remove the debris guard (16) along the centerline of the wheel axle to prevent
damage to the drive shaft of the tachometer.
(c) Remove the screws (19).
(d) Remove the shroud (12).
(e) Remove the impeller (13)

Pre Technofan SIL 174-32-541
• Remove the lockwire from the nut (18) and discard it.
• Lock the impeller (13) with DISASSEMBLY TOOL, MG174-04 . Loosen

the nut (18) and remove the impeller (13).
NOTE
Pull the impeller (13) when you loosen the nut (18).
Post Technofan SIL 174-32-541
• Lock the impeller (13) with DISASSEMBLY TOOL, MG174-04 .
• Remove the nut (18), the washer (31) and the impeller (13).
(2) Remove the joint.
(a) Loosen the screw (20).
(b) Remove the clamp (9).

BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU REMOVE/INSTALL THE WHEEL AND TIRE ASSEMBLY TO PREVENT INJURY
TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE WHEEL, AXLE OR OTHER EQUIPMENT.
THE ASSEMBLY IS VERY HEAVY (BETWEEN 130 KG AND 200 KG (290 LBS AND 440 LBS)).
CAUTION
MAKE SURE THAT THE AXLE THREAD PROTECTOR IS CORRECTLY INSTALLED ON THE AXLE.
YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE AXLE SLEEVE AND THE AXLE WHEN YOU REMOVE/INSTALL A
WHEEL IF THE AXLE THREAD PROTECTOR IS:
• NOT USED.
• NOT FULLY ENGAGED ON THE AXLE.
(1) Remove and discard the cotter pins (4) and the nuts (5).
(2) Remove the washer (6) and the bolts (8).
(3) Remove the axle nut (7) with the ADAPTOR-MLG, H47682 .
(4) Install the PROTECTOR, F46754-1000 .
(5) Apply a thin layer of 03GBB1 Synthetic Oil base Grease-General Purpose Clay Thickened - on the
axle protector.
(6) Put a TROLLEY - WHEEL CHANGE, A/C below the wheel.
(7) Remove the wheel (1).

installed on the wheel rim. The balance weight is part of the BCF/UBCF assembly (brake-fan shroud support), refer to the

(4) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.

must be correctly engaged in its groove. If not, the axle sleeve is not installed correctly and you
can cause damage to it when you install the axle nut.

(5) Install the axle nut (7) on the axle and tighten it with theADAPTOR-MLG, H47682 .
(6) In the cockpit, set the PARK BRK control switch to OFF.
(7) TORQUE the axle nut (7)25 to 30 M.DAN (184.37 to 221.24 LBF.FT ) while you turn the wheel in
the same direction.
(8) Make sure that the wheel does not turn and loosen the axle nut (7) gradually.
(9) TORQUE the axle nut (7) again until you get a torque value5 to 10 M.DAN (36.87 to
73.75 LBF.FT ) .
NOTE
It can be necessary to do steps (8) and (9) more than one time to get the specified torque value.
(10) TORQUE the axle nut (7)15 to 19 M.DAN (110.62 to 140.12 LBF.FT ) while you turn the wheel in
the same direction.
(11) Tighten the axle nut (7) until the holes in the nut are aligned with the holes in the axle.
(12) Installation of the bolts
CAUTION
MAKE SURE THAT YOU INSTALL THE BOLTS FROM THE INSIDE OF THE AXLE NUT.
THUS, THE WASHERS AND THE NUTS ARE ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE AXLE NUT. IF

(8) Prevent the rotation of the wheel and loosen the axle nut (7) to 0 torque.
(9) Turn the wheel in the direction of the axle nut rotation and TORQUE the axle nut (7)20 to
22 M.DAN (147.49 to 162.24 LBF.FT ) .
(10) Tighten the axle nut (7) until the holes in the nut are aligned with the holes in the axle.

D. Installation of the Fan
CAUTION
BEFORE YOU COMPLETE THE WHEEL INSTALLATION PROCEDURE, DO A VISUAL INSPECTION TO
MAKE SURE THAT NO DAMAGE OCCURRED TO PARTS DURING THE PROCEDURE.
MAKE SURE THAT THE TACHOMETER DRIVE SHAFT MOVES FREELY.
MAKE SURE THAT THERE ARE NO SIGNS OF DEFORMATION (TWISTING), CORROSION, FRICTION,
SCRATCHES AND STAINS:
• ON THE DRIVE SHAFT
• ON THE SPLINES OF THE TACHOMETER DRIVE SHAFT
• ON THE SPLINES OF THE TACHOMETER HUBCAP, OR
• ON THE SPLINES OF THE DEBRIS GUARD (IF BRAKE FANS ARE INSTALLED).
YOU MUST REPLACE ALL DAMAGED PARTS.
DAMAGED PARTS WILL PREVENT CORRECT ANTI-SKID BRAKING.
(1) Install the joint and the shroud.
(a) Install the joint (10) with the clamp (9).

NOTE
The locating pin (23) puts the joint (10) in the correct position. It locks the joint so
that it cannot turn on the wheel (1).
(b) TORQUE the screw (20)0.28 to 0.34 M.DAN (24.78 to 30.09 LBF.IN ) .
(c) Make sure that the grommet is in position. If the TPIS is not installed, make sure
that the obturator is installed on the grommet.
1 If the grommet is missing, refer to the applicable CMM and send the
brake cooling fan to the overhaul shop.
(d) Install the shroud (12) on the joint (10).

NOTE
Use the locating pins (11) on the joint (10) to put the shroud (12) in the correct
position.
NOTE
All the edge of the shroud (12) must touch the wheel.
NOTE
The TPIS hole location of the shroud (12) is aligned with the joint grommet.
(e) Install the screws (19).

(f) TORQUE the screws (19)0.225 to 0.275 M.DAN (19.91 to 24.34 LBF.IN ) .
(2) Installation of the impeller assy
(a) Installation of the impeller (Pre Technofan SIL 174-32-541)
1 Apply a thin layer of03LBB1 Grease-Thread Anti-seize Graphited and

Petrolatum - on the threads of the impeller drive shaft and on the
threads of the nut (18).
2 Put the impeller (13) in position and engage the splines.
3 Lock the impeller (13) withDISASSEMBLY TOOL, MG174-04 . Install the

nut (18) and TORQUE3.1 to 3.7 M.DAN (22.86 to 27.29 LBF.FT ) .
4 Safety the nut (18) withcorrosion resistant steel lockwire dia 0.8 mm
(0.03 in.) .
5 Make sure that the impeller (13) can turn easily.
(b) Installation of the impeller (Post Technofan SIL 174-32-541)

Petrolatum - on the threads of the impeller drive shaft and on the
threads of the nut (18).
2 Put the impeller (13) in position and engage the splines.
3 Lock the impeller (13) withDISASSEMBLY TOOL, MG174-04 .
4 Install the washer (31) and the nut (18).
5 TORQUE the nut (18)3.1 to 3.4 M.DAN (22.86 to 25.07 LBF.FT ) .
(0.03 in.) .
(c) Installation of the debris guard

Petrolatum - to the screws (15).
2 Install the debris guard (16). Make sure that you engage the splines (21)
of the tachometer drive shaft in the splines of the bushing (17).
NOTE
The debris guard has holes of different diameters:
• large diameter (two): to permit removal of the debris guard
without removal of the shroud assy screws (larger than the
screw heads).
• medium diameter (two): to put the locating pins in the
correct position. Same holes on the shroud assy (centering
function).

• small diameter (four): to put the four attachment screws in

the correct position.
NOTE
Use the locating pins (11) to put the debris guard (16) in the correct
position.
3 Install the screws (15) and the washers (14).
4 TORQUE the screws (15)0.22 to 0.24 M.DAN (19.47 to 21.24 LBF.IN ) .

NOTE

Petrolatum - to the threads of the impeller drive shaft and on the threads
of the nut (18).
2 Make sure that the grub screw is installed on the impeller and that it is in
the correct condition.
a If the grub screw is not correctly installed:
• Apply MaterialLOCTITE 243 - ADHESIVE (Material No.

08-720) on the threads of the grub screw.
• Put the grub screw in position on the impeller (13).
• Tighten the grub screw until it touches the base of

the shaft groove.
• Loosen the grub screw a quarter turn.
3 Put the impeller (13) in position and engage the grub screw of the
impeller on the groove of the drive shaft.
(0.03 in.) .
(b) Installation of the debris guard
NOTE
• large diameter (two): to put the locating pins in the correct
position. Same holes on the shroud assy (centering function).
