I. INTRODUCTION
" Competing with men isn’t called feminism."

Feminism can be a very simple, popular but complex topic to talk about and understand about. Feminism is the
most overused word nowadays. Then what does feminism actually mean? It’s supposed to be a revolution, a
group of campaigns asking for equality and supporting women. However, now some logic is there from the
feminist movement where females have a stronger side whereas the opposite side i.e., male community is
jeopardized and somewhere within the middle pseudo-feminist impairing the complete movement.

Feminism is knowing that woman is beyond her body to treat her as a human being than as a woman, an
individual should be respected regardless of what gender they carry. Feminism may be a person’s lifestyle
within the boundaries of their choices. Because when humanity is core at a person’s thought process all other
ideologies are built around it only.

Is feminism a true 50/50 split of gender rights?

II. BACKGROUND INFORMATION

● What is feminism?

Feminism is the belief that women are given the same rights, powers, and opportunities as men and are treated
in the same way or set of activities to achieve this.

● Women’s movement to achieve feminism

Although the term feminism has not existed for quite so long, the fight for gender equality has been going on
for centuries. Coined in 1837 by a French philosopher, feminism initially referred to feminine qualities of
character, but the term has since been politicized.

Feminist movements have campaigned and continue to campaign for women's rights, including the right to vote,
hold public office, work, earn equal pay, own property, receive education, enter contracts, have equal rights
within marriage, and maternity leave. Feminists have also worked to ensure access to contraception, legal
abortions, and social integration, and to protect women and girls from rape, sexual harassment, and domestic
violence. Changes in female dress standards and acceptable physical activities for females have often been part
of feminist movements.

● What is rhetorical feminism?

Today’s feminism's loudest proponents vow is no longer about fighting for equality. A lot of feminist rhetoric
today does cross the line from attacks on sexism into attacks on men, with a strong focus on personal behavior:
the way they talk, the way they approach relationships, and even the way they sit on public transit. Male faults
are stated as sweeping condemnations; objecting to such generalizations is taken as a sign of complicity.
Meanwhile, similar indictments of women would be considered grossly misogynistic.

Feminist rhetoric is the study and practice of feminist discourses in public and private life.
3 | Page
"In content," says Karlyn Kohrs Campbell*, "feminist rhetoric drew its premises from a radical analysis of
patriarchy, which identified the 'man-made world' as one built on the oppression of women...In addition, it
incorporates a style of communication known as consciousness-raising" (Encyclopedia of Rhetoric and
Composition, 1996).

● What is a 50/50 split of gender rights?

A 50/50 split of gender rights is a complete half-split in all rights to both genders in any given situation. This
excludes all privileges that one gender may have over the other, as well as any bias.

III. DATA
1) Methodology
a. Survey form:

To begin with, we conducted a survey on Vietnamese people of both genders through Google form.

Research subjects Vietnamese's opinion in

survey
(59.4% Female, 40.6% Male)

Much agree with the questions (4-5) 670

Much disagree with the questions (1-2) 174

Neutral (3) 266

Total 1060

b. Survey questions

1/ What is your gender?

4 | Page
2/ Should the men take all responsibility during a conflict with his girlfriend?

The given chart illustrates that men should take all responsibility during a conflict with his girlfriend by most of
those who took the study (35.8%). Over 32% of users stayed neutral on this question. Some strongly agree with
the this matter, approximately 15.1%.

3/ Should a man keep his seat on a bus instead of giving it to a woman if he was there first?

The given chart illustrates that men should take all responsibility during a conflict with his girlfriend by most of
those who took the study (35.8%). Over 32% of users stayed neutral on this question. Some strongly agree with
the this matter, approximately 15.1%.

4/ Do you agree that men often hold an important job in society?

The graph above asked: Do you agree that men often hold the important jobs in society? According to the data, over 34%
are in agreement with this sentiment. This demonstrates how often a man participated in an important jobs in society..
However, around 31.1% of people aren't sure about this. These findings suggest it may not be the case for all men.

5 | Page
5/ Do you think that women deserve to be paid the same as men although the productivity of women is
less than man?

The graph above posed a question: Do you believe that women ought to be paid equally to men, despite the fact
that women's productivity is lower? According to the findings, around a third of people agree with this
viewpoint. This indicates how desirable it is for women to be paid equally to men. However, around 27.4 % of
respondents remain unsure.

6/ Do you think that male chauvinism (preferring men over women) still exists in our society?

The graph above posed a question: Do you believe that women ought to be paid equally to men, despite the fact
that women's productivity is lower? According to the findings, around a third of people agree with this
viewpoint. This indicates how desirable it is for women to be paid equally to men. However, around 27.4 % of
respondents remain unsure.

7/ Should a man only get married only when he has a successful career?

6 | Page
The given chart illustrates that men should only get married only when he has a successful career by most of
those who took the study (32.1%). Over 26% of users stayed neutral on this question. Some strongly agree with
this matter, approximately 15.1%.

8/ To be a man, you need to be tough

The graph shows that the majority of individuals who did the survey agreed that "to be a male, you have to be tough"
(31.1%). On this subject, almost 19.8% of people were undecided. Around 22.6% of people strongly agree with this
statement.

9/ Is there room for men in feminism?

The ninth question in the form is meant to indicate whether or not males have a place in feminism. The
surprising result is that just 4.7 % of them disagree with this statement. Those who have remained neutral, on
the other hand, will still be considered since they have the highest percentage (36.8 % )

10/ Do you think women should have the right to have a safe, legal abortion?

7 | Page
The given chart illustrates that women should have the right to have a safe, legal abortion most of those who
took the study (49.1%). Over 14% of users stayed neutral on this question. Some just agree with this matter,
approximately 27.4%.

11/ Gender equality is better today than it was five years ago.

The given chart illustrates that women should have the right to have a safe, legal abortion most of those who
took the study (49.1%). Over 14% of users stayed neutral on this question. Some just agree with this matter,
approximately 27.4%.

c. Method

From the survey: we requested 11 questions: the first questions are used to survey Vietnamese people’s gender,
the next 9 sentences to survey the attitudes and ways of perceiving the problem of the respondents on this issue,
and the last question to ask the respondents' opinion about the topic. There are constructed-response questions.

After having these opinions, we will summarize the arguments, divide the subjects into agreeing or disagree
with the topic question, and at the same time select the typical arguments, analyze arguments, and refute
arguments if the opinion is against our viewpoint.

2) Data analysis:
Based on the survey data, we divided opinions into 3 main groups: Those who agree to a 50/50 split in gender
rights, those who don’t, and those who stayed neutral.
As the result suggests those who think that feminism is a true 50/50 split in gender rights only make up less than
a third of the total answers (30.29%), though this is mostly made up of the answers to the general question #9
“Is there room for men in feminism?”. Meanwhile, the majority answered that feminism is not truly a 50/50
split is almost 1.5 times more than the previous people (41.82%). And finally, due to the controversial nature of
the subject, a good amount of people chose to stay neutral (27.89%).
In conclusion, from the data we have collected, it is statistically proven that feminism is NOT a true 50/50 split
in gender rights.

IV. ANALYSIS ARGUMENTS
The following are the arguments and evidences we have collected on both sides agreeing and
disagreeing.

1) Agree that “Feminism is a true 50/50 split of gender right”

A feminist is to believe that all people should be treated equally, regardless of male or female.
If a person ask for priority than other because of his/her gender, that is not considered
feminism. The Oxford Dictionary defines it as follows: “The active support of women's rights
on the basis of equality of the sexes.”

● Everyone is gender equal. All gender equality is feminism. So everyone is feminist.

9 | Page
In modern life, gender equality is acknowledged and evaluated in modern society from a multi-
faceted perspective. Gender equality is manifested in a variety of ways, including life and
health, education and learning, participation, and influence. Here is a multi-faceted look at
gender equality in current society.

One example can be witnessed is, North America was the birthplace of the women's
movement, owing to the fact that women in North America were allowed to attend school
earlier than in Europe, and women who can read and write, and who are encouraged to think for
themselves, are more likely to challenge how society works.

“If feminism cares about equality, why is it called feminism? Why not
egalitarianism or humanism?”
‘Humanism,’ it seems, has come up as an alternative simply because it sounds a little bit like
feminism and, phonetically, it gives the sense that it might mean being in favor of all of
humanity having equal rights. But that’s just a misconception. Humanism is a branch of
philosophy and ethics that says that the source of human morality isn’t God but humanity’s
capacity to be logical and triumph over dogma. So… that is why feminism can not be called
humanism.

Characters, in order from left to right, make mistakes about their weakness in this argument

- Storm in a teacup! It’s just a fact that girls aren’t as rational as men: generalization

+ This argument is too short for evidence to be conclusive, there is no data, nor anything to substantiate what he has
just said. At the same time, it is seriously sexist at the conclusion of the sentence

+ This conclusion uses the scale here, which is a few individuals, to refer to a larger category of women.

- Quiet and just last month we even had a lady chemist on our panel: personal attack(Ad Hominem).

+ This argument is intended to further appraise the gender distinction that the first character has mentioned. And the
thing he could see was that he felt a problem when a lady became a chemist, and that was a weak argument for
attacking people personally.

- Their hysterical over-reaction could destroy academia!(Appeal to popular opinion)

+ The argument was a popular justification, which was rather aggressive in saying that women would blow up an entire
academy. It's a totally weak argument, as it's just sexist and sexist.

Conclusion:

+ On one hand, this talking is "just" a joke between friends, Humor can be used to create a quick bridge among people.
But in this case, it may additionally beef up outgroups` otherness in sex and boom sexism with others too.

+ On the other hand, Feminism exists, but it's not very effective for some people who don't care about feminism.
Feminism can also become prevalent when it is used as a tool to bypass the law or feel sorry for it. The best evidence of
feminist abuse is the court battle between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard. Feminism was so popular at the time that
Depp was defeated in 2018 and is now his own.

The following arguments were collected by our team from a community survey. This information and data have
been summarized and divided into 2 positions: agree and disagree.

1) Agree that “Feminism is a true 50/50 split of gender right” (opposite side)
(a) “(1) If you're doing it right (2) it can be the most lucrative source of income a college girl can consider.

⇨ Cogent strong inductive argument
Refuting argument: (1) The problem here is that it is too hard to get right or otherwise, the sugaring relationship
is too easy to get wrong. Firstly, the students are too young and inexperienced; Second, this relationship is an
easy place for illegal activities to take place.

V. OUR REASONINGS AND RECOMMENDATION

1) The reasons why Feminism is considered as a “50/50 split of gender rights”
- There are people who believe that we do not need feminism today, but nothing could be
further from the truth. Women have struggled for equality and against oppression for centuries,
and although some battles have been partly won - such as the right to vote and equal access to
education – women are still disproportionally affected by all forms of violence and by
discrimination in every aspect of life.

- It is true that in some areas and on certain issues, there have been improvements: for example,
in Saudi Arabia women were allowed, for the first time, to vote and run for office in 2015
(https://edition.cnn.com/2015/12/12/world/saudia-arabia-women-vote/index.html). However, on
other issues there has been little or no progress: for example, there have been insignificant
reductions in cases of violence against women. Women continue to receive lower pay for the
same work as men in all parts of the world; there are still countries that do not have laws against
marital rape and still allow child brides, and practices such as 'honour' killings and female
genital mutilation still exist.

- Jokes about feminism and stereotypes about feminists persist, and many of these are also
homophobic and assume that being lesbian is something ‘bad’. In fact, being a feminist is not
something particular to any sex or gender: there are women and men who consider themselves
feminists, some are gay or lesbian, some heterosexual, bisexual or transgender - and some may
identify differently.

- The concept of feminism reflects a history of different struggles, and the term has been
interpreted in fuller and more complex ways as understanding has developed. In general,
feminism can be seen as a movement to put an end to sexism, sexist exploitation, and
oppression and to achieve full gender equality in law and in practice.
17 | Page
2) Group's opinions about gender rights in feminism
From my team’s point of view, feminism is not a bad thing. But it is completely wrong to state
a cause and not strive to follow it.
Firstly, feminism demands too many rights in favor of the wimmin while showing little interest
for the counterpart. This has become a trend for especially young woman seeking attention and
following the actions of the radical feminists blindly.
Secondly, current feminism can have a bad effect on people’s thinking. When feminists get
used to loose standards, they will think and act in a bad way.
Finally, a misunderstanding of what your rights are can led to illegal actions. Such as young
feminists being tricked into cults, rioting, or even human trafficking.

VI. CONCLUSION
In conclusion, feminism, despite claiming to advocate for equality, ignores rights issues unique
to men. We believe that the feminist movement has achieved its aims and now seeks higher
status for women than for men via special rights and exemptions, such as female-only
scholarships, affirmative action, and gender quotas. Moreover, feminism has resulted in
changes to society's previous norms relating to sexuality, which can be seen as detrimental to
traditional values or conservative religious beliefs. Furthermore, a change of women's roles is
also a destructive force that endangers the family, or is contrary to religious morals.

For those reasons, the view of society on this issue is still harsh, and many people cannot
accept that" Feminism is a true 50/50 split of gender".
