S/4HANA
SAP Announced an upcoming change
in its release and maintenance
strategy for SAP S/4HANA.
Post release 2023 of SAP
S/4HANA, available in
October 2023.
SAP S/4HANA
will change to a
Two Year release cycle.
 Additionally
SAP S/4HANA will change to
a longer
Seven Years
of mainstream maintenance
or Support Period
per release
Easy-to-adopt feature packs
are currently planned
to be delivered every
Six Months
in the first two years of a
release.
 SAP’s announcement that
until 2040, there will always
be at least one release of
SAP S/4HANA in
maintenance remains
unchanged.
 SAP will offer customers
on releases 1709,1809 & 1909
of SAP S/4HANA an extended
maintenance option, which
will enable customers to
directly upgrade to the
2023 version.
 Customers on versions
1709, 1809, and 1909 of
SAP S/4HANA will be able to
benefit from extended
maintenance (7 years) in one
of the following two ways:
 Customers subscribed to
RISE with SAP or legacy
subscription models, for
example, subscription for SAP
HANA Enterprise Cloud, take
advantage of the option where
extended maintenance is
included at no additional fee.
 For customers who are on
(1709,1809 or 1909) SAP
S/4HANA versions in an on-
premise environment and wish
to remain there, extended
maintenance is an option and
will cost an
Additional Fee of Four Percent
of their respective core SAP
S/4HANA maintenance base.
