LESSON PLAN Date/Time:

I. OBJECTIVES Describe the motion of an objects.

Calculate speed, distance and time.
A. Content Standards Gravity and friction affect movement of objects
B. Performance Standards Calculate speed, velocity, displacement and acceleration; and promote road safety
awareness.
C. Learning Competencies Describe the motion of an object by tracing and measuring its change in position
(distance travelled) over a period of time (S5FE-IIIa-1).

A. Reviewing past lesson or Review the pupils in the previous lessons learned.
presenting the new lesson Ask: Can you give some of the things you should do as Grade 5 learners to contribute in
protecting and conserving water resources and other living organisms in the intertidal
zones and estuaries?
B. Establishing a purpose of the Ask the pupils: Have you experience playing with your friends? What are the games you
new lesson (Motivation) are playing?
Present a picture of children playing “Tumbang Preso” (PE Integration)
Ask: Do you experienced playing Tumbang Preso with your friends? What are you going
to do in order to win the game?

C. Introduction Let the teacher read the story: Bike Safely by Joyce B. Macatangay
Guide Questions:
What do you need before riding a bicycle? (ESP Integration)
Why do you need to wear a helmet?
How do bicycle move?
How do you stop the bicycle in motion?

D. Explanation Motion is defined as the movement of an object. It is the change in an object’s position.
Position is a place where someone or something is located or has been put (Oxford
dictionary). State of rest means no change in position with respect to a reference point.
Motion moving in a straight line is called rectilinear motion. The movement of an object
along the circumference of a circle is called circular motion. The object moves around a
center fixed point. Rotational motion is the movement of an object in circular motion on
its axis. All motions are relative to specific frame of reference. A frame of reference is a
perspective that one uses to determine if an object is moving.

Speed is how fast an object moves. We can calculate the speed by dividing the distance
over a period of time. (Mathematics Integration)

Example 1:
A man walks 15 meters in 15 seconds. What is his speed?
Given:
Distance = 15 meters
Time = 15 seconds
Unknown: Speed = ?
Formula: s = d / t
Solution:
s =15m / 15s
s = 1 m/s

Example 2:
A car travels a distance of 240 km in 4 hours. What is the speed of the car?
Given:
Distance = 240 km
Time = 4 hours
Unknown: Speed = ?
Formula: s = d / t
Solution:
s = (240 km) / (4 h)
s = 60 kph
(For vehicles, the standard unit is km/h or kph

Distance is the measurement of the space between objects. How far or near point from
one another.
We can calculate distance by this formula:

Example 1
Dahlia runs at an average speed of 8 kph. If she runs for 6.5 hours, how far does she
travel?
Given:
Speed = 8 kph
Time = 6.5 h
Unknown: Distance = ?
Formula: d = (s) x (t)
Solution:
d = 8 km/h x 6.5 h = 8 km
d = 52 km

Time is the amount it takes an object to travel to a certain distance.

We can calculate time by using this formula:

Example 1
Lino drives at an average speed of 25 kph on a travel of 125 km. How long will the
journey take?

Given:
Speed = 25 kph
Distance = 125 km
Unknown: Time = ?
Formula: t=d/s
Solution:
t = (125 km) / (5 km/h)
t = 5 hours
