What if you disagree on the assessment outcome?

You can appeal against a decision made in regards to your assessment. An appeal should
only be made if you have been assessed as ‘Not Yet Competent’ against a specific unit and
you feel you have sufficient grounds to believe that you are entitled to be assessed as
competent. You must be able to adequately demonstrate that you have the skills and
experience to be able to meet the requirements of units you are appealing the assessment
of.
Your trainer will outline the appeals process, which is available to the student. You can
request a form to make an appeal and submit it to your trainer, the course coordinator, or the
administration officer. The AHIC will examine the appeal and you will be advised of the
outcome within 14 days. Any additional information you wish to provide may be attached to
the appeal form.

Academic Integrity:
Academic Integrity is about the honest presentation of your academic work. It means

work of someone else.
Collusion may be with another RTO student or with individuals or student’s external to the
RTO. This applies to work assessed by any educational and training body in Australia or
overseas.
Collusion occurs when you work without the authorisation of the teaching staff to:

• Allow someone else to write or edit your work (without rto approval)
• Write or edit work for another student

Assessment Task 2 Instructions

Carefully read the following:

Grow Management Consultants specialises in leadership consultancy. It has been

operational for five years. The company offers a range of services to assist companies to
assess leadership behaviour of existing managers and performance metrics. They also
design and implement customised leadership programs based on the assessment. Services
are offered Australia-wide.

This year a number of exciting new projects will be launched to add to the company’s
offerings.

As a result of the new projects, you have recently been appointed as the new Program
Manager and part of your role is to implement and manage a new benefits management
approach. This approach has been adopted as it is considered to be fundamental to
effective program and project management. The approach involves identifying, planning,
measuring and tracking benefits from the start of the program until realisation of the last
projected benefit and aims to ensure that that the desired benefits are specific, measurable,
agreed, realistic and time bounded.

The new projects that will contribute to the overall project are as follows:
 Leadership Conference
An annual conference focusing on leadership will be organised. The conference will be a
one day event attracting high level speakers and participants. This year it will take place
in Sydney but in subsequent years it will be held in other capital cities. Dan Streep, the
Administration Manager has been allocated responsibility for organising the Conference.
 Professional development workshops
A series of professional development workshops will be organised focussing on aspects
of leading and managing staff. These will be short topic based workshops (e.g.
Emotional Intelligence for Leaders) conducted 4 times a year in all major cities i.e.
Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne. They will run for 3 hours and also offer an opportunity
for networking. The Operations Manager, Donna Chisholm will be responsible for
organising and developing all the workshops.
The workshops are intended to be principle means of advertising for the company’s
consultancy services, where most of Grow Management Consultant’s income is
generated. The senior consultants run the workshops. They, and their assistants (who
also work as consultants), then use the contacts generated there to get commissions to
carry out management-level assessments and projects for the company. Donna co-

ordinates the consultants with the workshops.

 eBooks
The company has already produced an eBook on Business Growth Leadership
Techniques. The E-book has sold well. Several senior consultants have also expressed
interest in writing an eBook in their area of expertise. The eBook project was led by Erin
O’Donnell, who has been the company’s marketing manager for three years. An
additional project will see the development of two additional eBooks. Leadership in
Emotional Intelligence and Leadership in Learning. Erin will manage this.

Complete the following activities:

1. Write a Program Benefits Management Report.

As part of your responsibilities as the new program manager, you are required to implement
and manage a benefits management approach.

As a first step you have been asked to develop a Program Benefits Management Report with
the purpose of identifying benefits and trade-offs (also known as disbenefits). Your report will
then be discussed at a meeting with each of the newly appointed project managers as per
the scenario information provided.

The objective of the meeting will be to define program benefits and to agree on the overall
benefits delivery approach, as well as responsibilities. The report you develop will therefore
inform project managers such that they can contribute towards and agree on benefits
management.

Begin by reviewing the company’s Strategic Plan and the scenario information. You should
also review the data provided to you regarding the eBook. This initial data (finances report
and overall project report) will also assist in identifying benefits and trade-offs for all projects.

Then develop your report.

Your Program Benefits Management Report should include the following:

 An introduction to benefits management, including definition of and rationale
for benefits management and proposed benefits management approach
(including risk management, issues management and change control).

 Identification and evaluation of program benefits relevant to Grow

Management. Your evaluation should distinguish between short and long term
benefits, as well as the alignment of each benefit with strategic objectives.
 Evaluation of the trade-offs that arise based on the identified benefits.
 An evaluation of the eBook’s project performance and how this has assisted
in identifying program benefits.
 Prioritisation of benefits.
 Outline of the interdependency of identified benefits.
 Evaluation of internal and external issues that could impact on the program.
Regarding external impacts, your report should include an external review of
current trends relevant to the industry in which the company operates.
Regarding internal issues, consider and report on potential internal factors
that could impact on the program context and potential change control
mechanisms.
 Proposed assigning of responsibilities for benefits.

Use the Program Benefits Management Report Template to guide your work.

You will be modifying your report following a meeting with the Project Managers, so save this
version of the document as Draft Program Benefits Management Report.

Submit Draft Program Benefits Management Report to your assessor.

2. Conduct a program benefits management meeting.

The objective of this meeting is to define and agree on program benefits with your program
management report providing a basis for discussion.

Begin by going through your report with the project managers.

At the meeting and once you have gone through your report:
 Ask for feedback on the benefits you have identified.
 Agree on program benefits and the program benefits delivery approach,
including how benefits will be measured.
 Discuss program benefit interdependencies and how to manage these.
 Assign benefits to each manager and have each manager accept this.
