Radio 1

2. Design (Radio 1)

A design of a carpet is designed on graphted paper. We distinguish

dentlines in vertikal direction and colorlines in horizontal direction.
The dentlines/cm are defined by the reed density and the colorlines
are defined by the pick density/cm. As on the 2/2 V-weave we are
Colourlines

only weaving one tuft per 2 picks, we shall divide the pick density
by 2 to obtain the amount on colorlines (= number of pilerows/cm).
As a design must be designed by proportion, we will calculate the
ratio (or scale). The ratio is calculated by dividing the number of
dentlines by the number of colorlines or vice versa.

3. Example

Specifications : - CRT83 - 6 Frames

- Reed density : 500/m (= 5,0 dents/cm)
- Quality : 10 picks/cm (= 5 colorlines/cm)
- Dimension carpet : 2,00 x 3,00 m

Number of dentlines : 5,0 dents/cm

Number of colorlines : 5,0 colorlines/cm
Ratio : - colorlines = dentlines
- 5,0 / 5,0 = 1,0
- Listing ratio : 1,0 = 10/10

dentlines

Specification carpet 2,00 x 3,00 :

--> Number of dentlines : 2,00 x 5,0 dents/cm x 100 = 1000 - 1 (return dent is not designed)
X = 999
--> Number of colorlines : 3,00 x 5,0 colorlines/cm x 100 = 1500 - 1 (return colorline is not
designed)
Y = 1499

If a design has a symmetry in warp and filling direction only a quarter will be designed.

4. VDW rules

To improve alternatingly horizontal lines on the carpet we recommend to design these lines
single - double. With this solution we will be able to remove the double points in the carpet .

Double points

Double points are bad alignments on pile switches between TC and BC, of
pile yarns which are incorporated in the BC and pile yarns which are
incorporated in the TC. The position of a half tuft before a complete tuft in
another pile area gives a mixture in pile surface in the top and bottom carpet.

7. Techniques to avoid double points ("field technique").

By using computer programs double points can be avoided in combination with modifications
to the card design by using the Van de Wiele rules.

12. Carpet Folding.

To improve the carpet folding small bridges will be woven with the incorporated pile yarns.
In the cutbar area the bridges are made with floatings on the back of the carpet with some
of the incorporated pile yarns. In the pile area the bridges are made with some of the
remaining incorporated pile yarns and they will float on the back of the carpet. The carpet
folding can be activated during processing. With enough cutbar carpet folding can be added
automatically to the original card design. For standard carpet folding 3 bridges are woven in
pile area and 3 bridges in cutbar area. In between the bridges C0 is woven during 3 pixels
or 6 picks.
