Stages of progression
The initial certificate (Basics) It validates
the competence to pilot independently on a known site. It
certifies that the pilot controls his flight trajectory whether
in the air or on the slope skying and perform good and safe
landing on different types of slopes.

The pilot’s certificate (intermediate)

It validates the competence to pilot independently on any
site and under varied weather conditions.
The minimum age to obtain the pilot’s certificate is 16 years old.

• The validation of practical competences is carried out by an instructor and

certified by the director of the school.
• A theory test, organized by the director of the school, will evaluate the level
of theoretical knowledge.
• The pilot’s certificate is registered by the FFVL.

The confirmed pilot’s certificate (advanced)

It validates the competence to optimize the piloting under
all conditions with various weather and snow conditions).
Specialization in the practice of:
slalom, aero traction (kite), free-style, hight montain practice.

• The practical competence validates all knowledge found on level “brown” of

this passport.
• The theoretical knowledge consists of an oral test during which you will
discuss the problematic details of the practice of Speed Riding on this level of
competence. (Analysis, technique, mental of mind, practice rules)
• The confirmed pilot’s certificate is registered by the FFVL.

The certifications must be completed in “Stages of training and qualifications”

-> From beginner to expert,

the pilot’s progression consists of three cycles.
Each one of these cycles are validated by a certificate
corresponding with one or more color levels.

-> The sum of competence necessary to fly safely

with the proper skills is developed throughout the entire formation of a
pilot; and can be divided into four distinct but inseparable fields:

techniques.

asseportSpeed09-UK.indd 4 22/01/13 14:03:04

This passport is, above all, intended to be a tool for the pilot’s
self-evaluation.
The validation of the different levels is based on the notion of
individual skills. At each level, the three columns are meant to
help you identify your strengths and weaknesses, and the areas of
potential progression, under the supervision of your instructor.

All pilots must have an Aviation Liability Insurance policy. T
The FFVL provides Federal Insurance cover to all speed ‘s
riding pilots with a paragliding sport license. s

Speed riding is possible on secured off-track sites of ski T

resorts (access by ski lifts) and only with the permission of th
local authorities/land owners.
W
It is highly recommended that specific areas be designated n
to practice speed riding to avoid all accidents with other p
off-track users. b

Speed riding on the ski slopes (ski area) is forbidden,

except with authorization of the local authorities and only
when the area is not used by skiers. Normally, this concerns
specific speed riding areas.

In case of specific rules or local regulations for a site, all

pilots must respect these rules. Therefore it is important
that rules and regulations are published - where everyone
can see them and has access to them.

There is no minimum height to pass obstacles during a

skiers is strictly forbidden.

The minimum flying height for classic flying is defined by

f the Aviation Flight Rules.

When speed riding takes place at sites that are

d non-accessible by the ski lifts, we speak of mountain
practice. In that case, not only do the rules of flying apply,
but also the mountain laws.

ns The FFVL proposes the following recommendations :

- A homologated helmet for paragliding is mandatory.

- Speed riding is a specific sport that require special

education, that you will find in many professional
schools.

- Make sure that you have the required skiing level.

- Be in good physical shape.
