NARRATIVE REPORT OF MID-YEAR INSET FOR TEACHERS

“Success is not an accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice, and most of all,
love of what you are doing or learning to do.”

The Binabalian National High School conducted the School-Based Mid-Year In-Service Training for
Teachers from December 14-19, 2020 at Senior High School building (3rd floor), Binabalian National High
School.

The said activity was purposed to strengthen and equip teachers on the current trends and necessary
things and skills they ought to have during the new normal set-up in education. Specifically, each session
was anchored to attain the following objectives:

1. To facilitate MELCs -Based Quarter 2 planning for DLDM

2. Enhance teachers’ skills in the preparation of the instructional materials, review and print modules for
remote/distance learning

3. Improve teachers’ ability in using technology in modular printed modality; and

4. Enable teachers to support each other to continuously improve their content and pedagogical
knowledge, practice, skills, and attitudes.

The first day session started with a short Opening Program, Monday afternoon. The usual parts of the
program as the singing of the National Anthem, Prayer, Panunumpa ng Katapatan sa Watawat,
Panunumpa ng Lingkod-bayan Singing of the Pangasinan and SDO1 Hymn were being conducted. After
the energizer prepared by the Grade 8 teachers, Dr. Ronald Alpon C. Tobias, Principal IV, inspired and
challenged the teachers as he delivered his message. After this, the over-all chairperson of the INSET,
Mrs. Mary Joy G. Tobias, gave the House Rules for the participants throughout the INSET. Mrs. Marian C.
Cacho, Head Teacher III, discussed updates and information contained in various DepEd Orders. She
gave reviews on DepEd Order No.07, s.2020 “School Calendar and Activities for S.Y. 2020-2021”; DepEd
Order No.30, s.2020 “Amendment to DepEd Order No.007”; and the Suggested Measures to Foster
Academic Ease during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

The second day session overflowed with blessings and energy as Mrs. Catherine C. Abalos led the prayer
with the energizer prepared by the Grade 9 teachers. Mrs. Norelyn M. Carolino and Mrs. Lily U. Caňas
were the assigned speakers of the day. Caňas, the school’s SDRRM Coordinator, discussed DepEd Order
No.12, s.2020 “Adaption of the Basic Education Learning Continuity Plan (BE-LCP) for the School Year
2020-2021 in the Light of the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency” and DepEd Order No.14, s.2020
“Guidelines on the Required Health Standards in Basic Education Offices and Schools.” In the afternoon,
Carolino tackled DepEd Order No.18, s.2020 “Policy Guidelines for the Provision of Learning Resources in
the Implementation of the Basic Education Continuity Plan” ; DepEd Order No.67, s.2020 “Guidelines on
the Implementation of Alternative Learning System Programs in Light of the Basic Education Learning
Continuity Plan.” She also gave light on DepEd Order No.32, s.2020 “Guidelines on the Engagement of
Services of Learning Support Aides to Reinforce the Implementation of the Basic Education Learning
Continuity Plan in Time of COVID-19 Pandemic.”

The third day of the INSET favors everyone for the Second Quarter preparation as Mrs. Rina C.
Purgatorio discussed MELCs-Based Quarter 2 Planning for DLDM. Here, tips to unpack, and to pack
MELCs were being reviewed. Likewise, reasons for dropping and combining MELCs were also given. The
group was given time working on their MELCs for the Second Quarter. In the afternoon, Mr. Billy Ray G.
Mara discussed the parts and importance of the Individual Learning Monitoring Plan. A sample was
shown then the participants were given time also to prepare their own ILMP.

On the fourth day, Mr. Freeland C. Unto discussed the importance and parts of the Weekly Home
Learning Plan for Teachers. As the School Testing Coordinator, he meticulously presented and evaluated
samples of summative test and performance tasks. He presented a sample and guide the participants to
work also on their own sample of WHLP for second quarter. In the afternoon, Mrs. Mary Joy G. Tobias
guided the group on how to assess students summative tests and performance outputs during the new
normal setting as she discussed Interim Guidelines for Assessment and Grading in Light of the Basic
Education Learning Continuity Plan as stated in DepEd Order No.31, s.2020. Here, teachers were taught
using the new e-class record per learning area with hands-on activity for the computation of grades.
Fifth day was filled with excitement as Mr. Jerome C. Cacho brought to the group techniques on how to
lessen the use of resources (time and school supplies) and work with ease in printing modules using the
booklet type and gray scaled settings. Actual demonstration was shown to the group. In the afternoon,
Mrs. Rina C. Purgatorio brought pleasure to the group as she tackled Personality Development. Some
pointers were given on how to improve personality among teachers, in and out. Recalling some
experiences and sharing thoughts were being done.

On the 6th and last day of the session, everyone was tasked to present their outputs assigned to them
by some speakers. There were moments for insights sharing, open forum, and wrap up activity. They
also enjoyed participating on the game in a form of “Question and answer.” This promotes team
building, developing better insights and camaraderie. The questions were taken from the lectures of the
speakers and the winners were given cash prizes.

Dr. Tobias left a challenge and words of inspiration and encouragement as he marked the closing of the
event. This was followed by the awarding of certificates for the speakers, committee chairs and
members and to all the participants. The last part of the program was the singing of Pilipinas Kong
Mahal that symbolizes our love of our country.

Truly, DepEd’s mission continues as we go along with various ways to shape up our future leaders
despite the pandemic that we are with. We really need an awful determination, dedication, self-
discipline, and efforts to surpass this battle cry. Alone, reaching our goals would be impossible, but
together, we can make it happen.
