PIC KIT S9

Repair process

/no prior experience with electronics required/

PREFACE

We suggest you to have the following items available:

· USB to micro USB (type B) cable

· 5V power bank with USB receptacle

Hashboards from Antminer S9 and S9(i)/(j) versions have a component called "PIC",
which may fail to perform properly due to the various circumstances, including (but not limited
to) unstable power supply, heat, etc.

[1] Problem identification

When you see this in your log (accessible on miner's web page: [miner's IP]/kernelLog.html ):

Check chain[5] PIC fw version=0x00
chain[5] PIC need restore …
Error of set PIC FLASH addr: addr_H=3(0) addr_L=0(0) on Chain[5]

(it could be chain[6] or chain[7] as well)

It's time to reprogram your PIC.

[2] Repair process

· Unpower miner and disconnect cables from faulty hashing board

· Take PICS9 and connect it to the 5V power supply using USB cable
· Insert connector into the corresponding holes on hashing board: On the side of the board,
where red LED usually appears during active hashing insert connector with blue cable
facing right hole (with the square pad).

· Make sure connector is not moving. Signal loss during programming process may brick
your PIC component on hashing board.
· Wait until you see blue signal blinking on the PIC KIT S9
· Press a button on PIC KIT S9
· Red signal will appear on PIC KIT S9 for a couple of seconds
· When red becomes green and blue light continues blinking - you are all done!

[3] What if it doesn't work?

If re-programming your PIC gives no result, please purchase a new PIC16F1704

component, replace old part with the new one, and then program it with PIC KIT S9 as explained
above. Simply changing the component won't work, since it still needs to be programmed in
order to be successfully identified by the controller board.
