Hospital’s community involvement affairs.

 Prattville Baptist Hospital – Subject Matter Expert for building electronic medical record
documentation system, 2008-2011
Appointed by hospital administration to serve on a build, design, and implementation team for
Cerner Electronic Documentation System for a 3-hospital system. Duties included making design
decisions, ensuring documentation was appropriate for meaningful use, training more than 500
physicians, nurses, and ancillary staff on the final product functionality before adoption, and
continuing support after implementation.

 Prattville Baptist Hospital – Autauga County Domestic Violence Task Force, 2006-2007
Appointed by hospital CEO to be facility representative on a community task force to reduce/end

ACADEMIC AND PROFESSIONAL PRESENTATIONS

Nurse Champions for Medication Reconciliation: Making a Difference- 2020


 Presented DNP project information to the project facility’s CEO, Nursing administrators, Quality
department leaders and Pharmacy Director. Information regarding the project goals, design,
methods and interventions, and statistical analysis of the results data was provided in PowerPoint
format. The purpose of the presentation was to inform facility decision-makers of implications
and recommendations regarding proposed changes after completion of a quality improvement
project surround medication reconciliation in an inpatient setting.
 This DNP quality improvement project was also presented to Jacksonville State University DNP
students and faculty to fulfill DNP degree requirements.
 As an intervention of the medication reconciliation quality improvement project, a classroom-
style education was provided to select nurses who participated in the project.

Safer Handoff Communication - 2014


 Provided education to operating room and PACU staff on safe handoff communication, including
SBAR communication techniques, closed-loop communication, and the use of checklists to
ensure optimal patient safety for this high-risk department.

A Case Study: Neurocysticercosis- 2013


 Developed and presented a case study of a patient with neurocysticercosis for faculty and peer
cohort at the University of South Alabama. The presentation included chief complaint, patient
history, diagnostics ordered, differential diagnoses, and medical management of the patient used
in case study.

Teach Back: Assessing Patient Understanding- 2013


 Researched and developed a two- hour lecture and return demonstration of the teach-back process
of patient education to all nursing staff at Prattville Baptist Hospital. This was presented as a part
of a quality initiative to reduce readmissions and enhance patient outcomes.

All in a Day’s Work: PCT Refresher Course- 2013


 Developed and presented a 2.5-hour lecture and presentation of basic skills of patient care
technicians at Prattville Baptist Hospital. This class included information on vital signs, specimen
collection, oral care, catheter care, and fall prevention.

Acute Ischemic Stroke- 2013


 Developed and presented a 2-hour CE lecture and presentation for the University of South
Alabama on the evidence-based treatment of patients with acute ischemic stroke. Presented as a
mandatory educational requirement to all nurses at Prattville Baptist Hospital at the request of
hospital administration.

Suicide Risk, Assessment, and Prevention- 2012


 Presentation and lecture of suicide risk assessment, suicide prevention, and therapeutic
communication. Developed as a requirement of Jacksonville State University. After completion,
this was presented to all medical-surgical, ICU, and emergency department nurses at Prattville
Baptist Hospital at the request of the facility CEO.

Foley Care and CAUTI Prevention- 2012


 Developed and presented a 2.5-hour CE lecture and presentation on the importance of proper
Foley catheter care in effort to eliminate catheter associated urinary tract infections at Prattville
Baptist Hospital. The presentation included proper insertion techniques, urinary specimen
collection, and effective perineal care and was presented to all nurses and patient care technicians
with a mannequin return demonstration requirement.

Rapid Sequence Intubation: What You Need to Know- 2011


 Developed and implemented a contest consisting of a 4-week series of written information on
rapid sequence intubation for all nurses at Prattville Baptist Hospital followed by a multiple-
choice post-test. The unit with the highest post-test scores won a home-cooked dinner and
dessert, prepared and served by hospital administration.

 Participated in the making of a fun and educational video displaying the importance of staff
handwashing to patients of Prattville Baptist Hospital. The video is available for viewing at
