ASSEMBLY
❖ Standard mates
➢ Coincident mate:
It is the most Tool used to mate and it’s
used to mate two faces, lines or points that
make faces in the same height

1. Select mate form assembly tab

2. Select the faces, lines, or points you want to

mate in mate selections

3. Select coincident

1|Page
This PDF is created by RAS TS

4. Finally, select ok

5. But if mate was inverse, you can manage

it by using mate alignment

6. And you can create distance or angle in

your mates between two objects

➢ perpendicular mate:
this mate used to make the part perpendicular with
some object as you can move the part as you like but
it will stay perpendicular with this object

If you have two object mates with edge like

the opposite figure and you want to make
them perpendicular

1. Choose the two faces that you want to

make them perpendicular
2. From standard mates choose perpendicular
3. The mate will be done automatically

3|Page
This PDF is created by RAS TS

4. Note that you can move the part

as you want, and it still mate
perpendicularly

➢ parallel mate:
it is the same idea of perpendicular mate but use
when you need two objects are parallel

4|Page

➢ Tangent mate:
This mate use with circle shapes like opposite figures

5|Page
This PDF is created by RAS TS

To make this mate

1. Select two faces that you want to mate
2. Select mate and from standard mate choose
tangent
3. The mate will be done automatically

4. Then you can make coincident mate

between the front faces to make them in
the same line

6|Page

➢ Concentric mate:
This mate is used when you want to mate two circle
shapes and make them have the same axis

For example if you want to make the small clyinder

have same axis with the big one

1. choose any circle or clyinder shape in the first one

and another circle shape in the other for example
choose the outer face of the small one and the
inner face of the big one.
2. Then you choose concentric mate from standard
mates
3. As usual the mate will be done
automatically

❖ Mechnical mate :
This mates are stunning if you want to make most important
mechnical mates that you may need

➢ Cam mate:
The most common example for cam is camshaft in the car engine

we could make a simple example for this mate, if you

designed some parts like that in the figure and you want
make cam mate between them

1. Choose the outer face of cam (cam path)

2. Then choose the point that you need to touch the cam
(cam follower)
3. Choose cam mate form mechanical mate
4. Finally, the mate would done in seconds

8|Page
This PDF is created by RAS TS

the mate will be like the opposite figure then you won't do
anything else but press OK
and after that you can move CAM and the shaft will move
automatically with cam

➢ slot mate:
if you have some parts like this and
you want to mate them and make
the pen move in the slot in wall

1. In the first mate the wall with link

2. make the pen tangent with the inner face of link

9|Page
This PDF is created by RAS TS

3. Now you should use mechanical mate between pen and the
wall
4. Select mate and choose slot mate
5. Select the outer face of pen and the inner face of wall then
ok

6. Note you can make coincident mate between end of pen and the back of wall
to prevent any unwanted movement

➢ Hinge mate:
If you want to make any hinge like door hinge you can
use hinge mate let, make simple hinge to show how
you can use it

1. open mate list and choose hinge

2. In concentric selections you should choose any two crucial
shapes that are concentric

3. Then in coincident selection you can choose any two faces that are
coincident

OR

4. Just as you choose done it will be made immediately

➢ Gear mate:
It is the most used mates as there is no mechanical
system without gears so let’s learn how can we make it

1. At first should put the two gears in a fixed axis

and then keep the gear teeth in its place and there
is not any tooth on the other like figure

2. Note that you make them in their position but each one of them
spins alone so we need to make a mechanical mate between them

12 | P a g e
This PDF is created by RAS TS

3. To make mechanical mate between them you should use diameter

of tooth cut so we need to show it so from Feature Manager choose
tooth cut and right click on the sketch and choose show, do that in
the two gears

4. Now we can make gear mate from mechanical mate choose gear
mate then in mate selection choose the outer diameter of tooth cut
and you could reverse motion if it made wrong

➢ Rack and pinion:

The mechanical mate let you to transfer rotational
motion to linear motion so we will try to make it in
simple example

1. You should put the gear in fixed axis and the

rick should be coincided with a fixed face
2. You should show tooth cut diameter of the
gear like the last mate

3. Then you should choose the outer line of rack in rack selection and choose
the outer diameter of the tooth cut of gear in pinion selection and you can
reverse motion like last example

➢ screw mate:
you can use this mate in nail and nut or in any screw
you want to make this mate

1. Make sure that the nail and the nut in the

same axis
2. Choose screw from mechanical mates
3. Now in mate selections you should choose
the inner face of the screw of nail and the
outer face of the screw of nut

15 | P a g e

4. then choose the direction of rotation by select reverse and choose any
direction you need.

❖ Advanced mates:
➢ Profile Center:

To make this mate you need to make two mates at least

1. Coincident mate between their faces

2. Concentric mate between the two circular shapes

17 | P a g e
This PDF is created by RAS TS

Or you can use profile center mate in advanced mate

1. Choose profile center mate

2. Select the two faces that you
want in mate selection
3. The mate you want will be made
in one mate

➢ Symmetric mate:
this mate use to make a symmetric distance
between two faces related to a plane between
them

to make this mate

1. Select mate then select symmetric from

advanced mates
2. First, choose the reference plane that
would be between the two faces
3. In the second selection you would choose
the two faces that you need to mate

➢ Width mate:
This mate is used to make limits in motion,
there are too many methods to make these
limits, but width mate is the most effective.

To make this mate

1. Select width from the advanced mates

list
2. First, choose the limit faces that you
want

19 | P a g e

3. In the second
selection you will
choose the faces of the
body that you want to
limit its motion

4. Then in constraint block you can choose the setation that you
want if you want to make it centered (fixed in the middle of
path) or free and you can determine a distance to fixed in it in
its path or a percentage from its path

➢ Path mate:
This mate use to make a motion limited by
path like a slot

To make this mate

1. Select path mate from the advanced mates

list
2. First, choose the point that would follow the
path

3. Select the path and you have many options by choose selection
Manager
a) Closed loop (like a circle)
b) Open loop (line or carve)
c) Select group of paths (many lines)
d) Region
e) One path (standard path)

Linear/Linear coupler:
this mate use to make a relation between two
movements of two objects
To make this mate
1. Select linear/linear coupler from the advanced
mates list
2. It enough to select two faces that you want
relation between them in mate selection in the
first and third block
3. Determine the ratio between them
