REVIEW QUESTIONS:

1. Why is life difficult to define?

Because there is no exact definition of what life is, and we have a lack of
objective measuring tools for defining life. It is true that we have many
explanations for what life is, but they differ from one another. Here are some
answers to the definition of life. First and foremost, the explanation from
scientists. They believe that in order to define life, they made qualifications, such
as the ability to reproduce and a reaction to outside stimuli, such as light and
heat. Another is the philosophical view of life. In total, we have a different
explanation of what is life, but we are not really sure what is right between those
explanations. I believe there are no wrong answers in any explanation; it is up to
people to think for themselves what is true. Finally, I believe every explanation
has enough research to back up their claims, and one thing is certain: it has a
history.

2. What are the basic chemical differences that distinguish living from nonliving
system?

We all know that living and non-living systems have the same kinds of
atoms which obey the same fundamentals of chemistry, but through the
organizational structure of macromolecules, they are now different from non-
living systems. Also, living systems have a complex molecular organization which
is comprised of nucleic acid, proteins, carbohydrates, and lipids.
3. Describe the hierarchical organization of life. How does this organization lead to
the emergence of new properties at different levels of biological complexity?

Living system has hierarchical organization of life and starts with the
simplest to the most complex. First, is the molecule or the small particles which
comprises by two or more atoms that held together by chemical bonding and it
followed by macromolecules or large amount of molecules that are typically form
by polymerization, and this macromolecules that aggregates within the cells that
surrounded by membranes are called organelles and one of the most common
example of it is the mitochondria and chloroplast, and it follows by the smallest
fundamental units of function in living organism or the cells and all the living
things are made up of cells, and it followed by tissue which compose of cells that
combined together that carrying out similar or related function, and now the
collection of tissues that group together that perform common function are called
organs and it follows by the organ system or the higher level of organization
which compose of different organs, and now it follows by the group of different
organ system combined together that perform their different roles called the
organisms or the living entities, lastly the population, all the living things that live
in the specific area are called the population and every population has their
different species like humans, animals, trees, even insects as well as the
microorganism.

4. What is the relationship between heredity and variation on reproducing biological

system?

The relationship between the two is traits. Heredity is the faithful

transmission of traits from parents to offspring via genes, while variation is the
production of differences among the traits of different individuals.
5. How do we distinguish the term hypothesis, theory, paradigm, and scientific fact?

A hypothesis is a tentative explanation about a certain topic or maybe an

observation that can be tested, while a theory is an explanation of some aspects
of the natural world which is surrounded by facts, tested hypothesis, evidence,
and laws, and lastly, the scientific fact is an observation that has passed through
a lot of investigations, studies, observations, and finding evidence, and the most
important thing is that it is confirmed by the scientist and it has the purpose of
giving truth.
