Mediation Training Course Syllabus and Program

The course uses lectures, discussions, case studies, and interactive exercises that simulate
the mediation process. It will also facilitate the development of strategic alternative dispute
resolution (ADR) directions.
Duration
A minimum of 40 hours is expected for the implementation of the modules.
Format
The outline of the course is applicable to synchronous on-site and virtual formats.
Working Language
The training will primarily be conducted in English, while Filipino may be used to expound
thoughts/ ideas during discussions.
Course Requirements
There are no prerequisites for this training. For the on-site format, participants are required to
use a laptop for the drafting workshops. For the online format, however, participants are
required to use any internet-ready and web conferencing-capable device complete with basic
audio and video peripherals, i.e., speakers/headset, microphone, and webcam. The use of a
desktop or laptop computer is highly recommended. A stable internet connection is desired to
avoid disruptions in learning during the training.
Course Objectives
At the end of the training, participants are expected to:
● Articulate the applicable laws and issuances governing mediation, its basic concepts,
stages, and structure;
● Recognize the advantages of using mediation in managing, mitigating, and resolving
disputes versus court litigation; and
● Apply practical skills in eligible mediation cases.
To assess the achievement of the course objectives, a pre-test, and post-training test shall be
administered at the beginning and end of the training to measure the amount of learning that
the participants acquired from the program. The participants’ skills will also be demonstrated
through the training program’s workshop exercises.
