READING
In each
passage, there are three sentences that are incomplete. You will choose the correct
word or phrase to complete each of those sentences. As in Part 5, you will need to be
able to identify the grammatical form or vocabulary word that correctly completes the
sentence. You may also need to refer to the context of the surrounding sentences to
answer some of the questions.

Targeted Skills In order to correctly answer Part 6 questions, you must be able to identify
appropriate usage of English grammar and vocabulary, as well as correct
use of words and expressions in context.
Completion Types Part 6 items consist of incomplete sentences within a reading text, such
as a letter, article, or notice. Completion items in Part 6 focus on the same
types of vocabulary, word forms, and grammar items as Part 5 of the
Reading Test. In addition, Part 6 questions may have the following focus.
Choose the correct word among four words that all fit
within a sentence grammatically. You must examine the context in which
the word will be placed to choose the correct answer.
Things to Watch Distracters, or incorrect answer options, will often be the same as in
For Part 5 —words that are similar but different, incorrect phrasal verbs,
incorrect word forms, and incorrect grammar forms. For some questions,
all answer options will be grammatically correct, but the distracters will
not fit within the context of the sentence.

always in the same paragraph as the blank.

negative meanings. If you aren’t sure of a word’s definition, look it up in a dictionary.
