At the end of the lesson, students are
expected:

1. To appreciate the historical and legal aspects of

(RA 9163);
2. To orient the students regarding NSTP components;
3. To make students aware of NSTP – CWTS as a
curricular program; and
4. To familiarize students regarding on the NSTP
Program and Grading System.

HISTORY OF NSTP
To appreciate the historical and legal aspects of
NSTP and the establishment of the NSTP Act of 2001
(RA 9163)

The “National Service Law”, was signed
into law on August 1980. It made national The “National Service Training

Being the fundamental and
supreme law of the land, the
Constitution mandates the
citizenry “to render personal,
military or civil service”.

citizens with civil or military
training.
Further enshrined in the Constitution
is the “vital role of the youth in
nation-building” by encouraging
their “involvement in public and
civic affairs”.

This promotes the importance of


the youth’s participation in the
democratic processes as
preparation for responsible
citizenship.
By combining the two aforesaid provisions of our Constitution, this
reinforces the creation and implementation of Republic Act 9163 or also
known as NSTP Act of 2001..

The National Service Training Program
(NSTP), is a civic education and
defense preparedness program
students instituted by the Government
of the Philippines.

Under the NSTP Program, both male


and female college students of any
baccalaureate degree courses or

or private educational institutions are


obliged to undergo one of the program
components for an academic period of
two semester.
ROLE OF THE YOUTH
In recognition of the vital role of the youth in nation-building, the
state shall provide civic consciousness among them and shall
develop their physical, moral, spiritual, intellectual and social well
being. It shall inculcate the ideals of patriotism, nationalism, and
advance their involvement in public and civic affairs

As the most valuable resources of the nation, they shall be
motivated, trained, organized and involved in military,
literacy, civic welfare programs and other similar endeavors
in the service of the nation

RESERVE OFFICERS’ TRAINING CORPS(ROTC)

A program institutionalized under


Sections 38 and 39 of Republic Act
No. 7077 designed to provide military
training to tertiary level students in
order to motivate, train, organize
and mobilize them for national
defense preparedness.

CIVIC WELFARE TRAINING SERVICE (CWTS)

A programs or activities contributory


to the general welfare and the
betterment of life for the members of
the community or the enhancement
of its facilities, especially those
devoted to improving health,
education, environment,
entrepreneurship, safety, recreation
and morals of the citizenry.
NSTP – Service Components

Literacy Training Service (LTS)

A program designed to train students


to become teachers of literacy and
numeracy skills to school children,
out of school youth, and other
segments of society in need of their
service.
National Service Reserve Corps
The National Service Reserve Corps (NSRC)
(Filipino: Panlaang Hukbo ng Pambansang
Paglilingkod)

The unit is composed of CWTS and LTS graduates. The


members of this corps may be tapped by the state
for literacy and civic welfare activities. In 2010 the
NSRC was mandated and mobilized for the delivery
of disaster risk reduction programs and activities.
National Service Reserve Corps
NSRC units are classified into two categories:

• Community-based NSRC Reservists Units (CBNRUs) unit


• Barangay, Municipal, City and Provincial

• School-based NSRC Reservists Units (SBNRUs)

NSTP CURRICULAR PROGRAM
To make students aware of NSTP – CWTS as a
curricular program.
MISSION
To conduct capability enhancement for civic welfare
services geared towards strengthening the values, and
traits of the youth, develop social entrepreneurs,
volunteers, and socio-economic mobilizing force, serving
communities as value-driven innovators for progress and
development while working closely with a network of
organizations within and outside the higher education
institution.
VISION

Recovery of the youth’s sense of patriotism and national


pride, values and habits of discipline and hard work,
integrity and accountability for nation building, volunteer in
the enhancement of valuable and effective members of
the National Service Corps of the Civic Welfare Training
Service.
GOAL

To promote and integrate values education;


transformational leadership; and sustainable social
mobilization for youth development, community
building, national renewal, and global solidarity.
General Objective of the course
To enhance and develop the civic consciousness,
social abilities and skills of the students through
various community and national welfare services.
Specific Objectives of the course:
1. Participate actively in team building activities;
2. Manifest effective leadership / fellowship skills;
3. Organize community assemblies and linkages;
4. Assist in the implementation of civic welfare project;
5. Determine community problems & concerns and actualize viable
intervention/s;
6. Show a high level of interest in community-building task;
7. Develop a harmonious working relationship with the community.
