Range Description:
Phyla nodiflora is native throughout Africa, temperate and tropical Asia, Australasia and tropical
America. In India, it occurs in almost all states at lower elevations (Cook 1996).

Population
There is no information on population size or trends in this species but there is no reason to suspect a
decline. The population trend is therefore assumed to be stable.

Habitat and Ecology (see Appendix for additional information)


This species occurs in a wide range of wetland habitats, from marshes to open, wet places near streams,
the margins of ponds, paddy fields, ditches and river backwaters, with some tolerance of brackish water.

Systems:  Terrestrial, Freshwater

Use and Trade


In India, the infusion of the dried leaves of this species are referred to as an excellent remedy for
bronchial cough. Ethno-botanically the decoction (extraction by boiling of dissolved chemicals) of this
plant is used as a wash to encourage weak babies to walk.

Threats
There are no known significant past, ongoing or future threats to this species.
