that might help entrepreneurs in terms of understanding the requirements in
establishing business plans and lessen the undesirable outcomes that might arise in
the future.

Criteria and Techniques in Selecting a Business Idea

1. Follow your Passion and Skills-
Before starting up your own business, try to assess your own interest
and desires. Someone whose following his/her own passion will show
resilience during times when the business is encountering hardships and
trials. He/she is more determined to achieve success and more motivated to
do hard work. This also goes to your capabilities as an individual. It is better
to stick on what you already know because after all you can still improve your
skills and gain chances of success.
2. Produce Products/Services that are Unique-
Invest in a business which produces unique products and give well-
developed services for it will make competitors a hard time in imitating it.
Customers are easily drawn to products that are appealing to their eyes,
exceptional to their taste buds, or provides a promising service once
purchased.

3. Understand the needs and demands of people-

Some communities have specific needs which an entrepreneur must
fully be aware of. Understanding what should be offered to these people leads
to more demands that will be beneficial to the business. It can certainly help
the future generation to make their lives comfortable as products and services
are easily accessible.

4. Examine the available resources-

An entrepreneur must be very attentive on what materials and skilled-
people are available in the area. A business can often started off with the
existing raw materials. This means selling them in raw form then processing
and manufacturing them into finished products.
People in the area might be skillful to be harnessed for business. These
will have a positive result to the community as it gives high employment rate
and more opportunities to their local people.

5. Be well-informed on the latest news and trends-

Magazines such as Newsweek, Reader’s Digest, Business Magazines,
“Go Negosyo”, Know About Business (KAB) materials, and Small-Industry
Journal are examples of periodicals where you can generate ideas about
