Bronchitis

Definition is an inflammation of bronchi

Etiology (causes) Bronchitis can be infectious and non-infectious.
and pathogenesis Infectious bronchitis can be caused by bacteria mycoplasma pneumonia or viruses influenza A, B.
Allergic bronchitis can be caused by irritating fumes or other allergens.

The cells of the bronchial-lining tissue are irritated by bacteria or viruses, or both. The mucous membrane becomes hyperemic and
edematous, diminishing bronchial mucociliary function. Consequently, the air passages become clogged by debris and irritation
increases. In response to inflammation, secretion of mucus develops, which causes the characteristic cough of bronchitis. Usually,
bronchitis develops as a secondary infection after the upper respiratory tract infection.
Clinical pattern Fever with chills, cough (dry or with phlegm), wheezing, muscle aches, sore throat, nasal congestion. Intercostal retractions can
(symptoms) occur due to reduced air pressure inside the chest. This can happen if small airways of the lungs (bronchioles) become partially
blocked.
Methods of Taking anamnesis
diagnostics Physical examination which includes auscultation
Blood test (High level of leukocytes and increased Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR) evidence the presence of inflammation in the
organism)
X-ray, CT
Oxygen saturation measurement
Pulmonary function test
Sample of phlegm
Treatment Antibiotics are used to treat bacterial bronchitis
Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are used to relieve muscle aches and reduce fever
Cough suppressants are used to suppress cough
Bronchodilators and spasmolytics are used to dilate bronchi in case of bronchospasm
Mucolytic drugs are used to thin sputum and ease cough
Drinking fluids is important to renew water balance, ease cough and eliminate toxins
Vitamin C is prescribed to strengthen the immune system.
Complications Chronic bronchitis, pneumonia, COPD conditions like bronchial asthma
Prevention Cessation of smoking,
Regular exercising
Prevention of rhinitis and colds
Airing the rooms
