DATA ANALYSIS

SPSS 20 package program was utilized in the data analysis. Multi-regression analysis along with
descriptive statistics, weighted mean and standard deviation values were used in the study. In the study,
descriptive statistics that evaluate standard deviation and arithmetic mean were calculated in order to
determine the perceptions of the students’ achievement goal orientation and parenting style. Multi
regression analysis was used in order to determine the effect of parenting styles on students’
achievement goal orientation. In order to evaluate the hypotheses of the analysis, linearity and
normality tests were done before multi-regression analysis.

SCOPE

The research design of this study was cross-sectional and descriptive; therefore, the observed
significant path coefficients denote only correlation. The sample population group involved students
only to identify the nature of their parents’ parenting style, not the parents themselves. The
questionnaire was framed in close-ended questions with pre-defined answers without allowing
students to freely express their perceptions about the nature of the different topics on the
questionnaire. The research site was limited to one of the states in the northeastern part of India. In
this Study, the convergent validity estimated by Average Variance Extracted for authoritarian
parenting style was below the cut-off point. This must be considered when the findings relate to the
authoritarian parenting style. Other limitations in the Study included self-reporting biases.

The study only uses two variables and aims only to identify the relationship between

the academic performance in terms of the grade of the student and the parenting style

portrayed by the parents. This research dont involve other factors like students’

attendance in the class, family income, mother’s and father’s education, teacher-student

ratio, presence of trained teacher in school, sex of the student and distance of schools,

family values and background, attitude, and study routine of the student. This research

will follow random sampling technique and descriptive method of data gathering by

means of administering questionnaires to the selected respondent. The researcher

won`t answer any question that is beyond the cover of this research.
STATISTICAL TREATMENT

The data gathered will be statistically treated using the SPSS software program in order
to get the findings for the study. The mean and standard deviation will be used to
determine the respondent’s level of Emotional Intelligence, and the Parenting Style.
In the first research question, the respondent’s level of Emotional Intelligence in
terms of: Self-Awareness, Managing Emotions, Motivating Oneself, Empathy, and
Social Skills will be summarized to get their mean and standard deviation. The second
research question tackles the level of Parenting Styles among the parents of the
elementary learners. On the third research question, the research will find out the
significant relationship between the Emotional Intelligence and Parenting Style on the
Academic Performance through the Grade Point Average of 3 quarters in the school
year of the learners, this will be ran through the Pearson – r Correlation whereas
Regression Analysis and Factorial Analysis of Variance gave the result of the effect of
Emotional Intelligence and Parenting Style to the Academic Performance among the
elementary learners. Post Hoc Analysis also will give the results in determining the age,
sex, grade level, and section to the academic performance.

PROCEDURE

To obtain the information in determining the effect of parenting style and academic
performance of the students: First, the researcher gathered the information
through a survey. Then, with the participants' consent, they were subjected to
answer the questionnaire and provide their 3rd year General Weight Average (GWA)

The final data gathering will start after the questionnaires will be validated and undergo
the reliability test. The researcher will ask permission from the principal and the teacher
for the data gathering. Also for the pilot study, the researcher will submit a letter of
permission to the pilot study of at least 100 respondents. After gathering the required
data, it will then be encoded by the researcher and then be brought to the statistician for
statistical treatment.

The researcher will first acquire the data through a survey in order to determine the relationship
between parenting style and students' academic performance. The final data collection will begin after
the questionnaires have been validated and put through a reliability test. The participants were then
required, with their consent, to respond to the questionnaire and provide their third year General
Weight Average (GWA). The researcher will approach the teacher and the principal for approval before
beginning to collect data. Additionally, the researcher will provide a letter of authorization for the pilot
study, which must include at least 100 participants. The researcher will encrypt the necessary data after
obtaining it, and the statistician will then process it statistically.
