My Recreational Activities

● ARTEstry
Customizing using art crafts

Splurging is accompanied by a rewarding feeling, especially if it comes with a

purpose. As we find things to buy that are essential to our daily lives, we could retain that
excitement/ satisfaction by designing these Shopee finds!

Materials
Wallet, canvas tote bag, acrylic organizers, shoes, pants, pencil case, vase, etc.
Art materials; poster paint, glitter, yarn, ribbon, dye, needle & thread, etc.
Mechanics
● Given the same materials, come up with your own idea and design, whatever
theme you would like to go with.
● This can serve as a gift you can share with your loved ones, a giveaway for
family gatherings, or just simply give life to the things you have inside your home.
● This can be done by the whole family, with your friend group, or by yourself.

● I’M ALL ABOUT THAT BAKE!

Baking pastries and making desserts

As a person who likes to invent and experiment with food, well, it’s not that bad!
Baking, or simply cooking, has multiple benefits. First on the list, is you get to know if you are a
terrible cook or can still improve in some areas. Also, you can share with everyone the food you
have made, and they will have a happy stomach :) Not only beneficial for the people who will eat
your food, but can serve as your hobby itself!

Materials
Ingredients for making a specific food/ dessert
Cooking utensils
Cookbook/ manual
Willingness and happiness to cook wholeheartedly<3

Mechanics
● Prepare all the ingredients and utensils needed for the said activity. Make sure
that you are certain of what you are going to cook/bake.

● Although this can be performed alone, it is better to do it with your family and
friends.

● Sharpen your mind

Scrabble/ Word games
Having recreational activities that require our body to work is good, but we should
also not forget that we can do recreational activities that require our mental ability to be
honed and sharpened!

Scrabble is a word game in which two to four players score points by placing
tiles, each bearing a single letter, onto a game board divided into a 15×15 grid of
squares. The tiles must form words that, in crossword fashion, read left to right in rows or
downward in columns and are included in a standard dictionary or lexicon
(Wikipedia,2022).

Materials
Scrabble board
2 racks
A bag of tiles
Scoresheets
Timer

Mechanics
● Draw seven letter tiles:
Have each player remove one tile out of the tile bag. The player that gets the
letter closest to the letter "A" goes first. Each player then draws seven tiles from
the tile bag.

● Score each word:

Tally each word score by adding point values for each letter in the word. Point
values range from 0 points for a blank tile to 10 points for the letters "Q" and "Z."
Use the scoresheet and a pen to keep track of the word scores for each player.

● Continue play:
Continue playing in a counterclockwise direction around the board. During each
turn, a player can decide to place a word on the board, exchange tiles, or pass.

● Choose new tiles:

After placing a word on the board, draw an equal number of new tiles from the tile
bag so that each player always has seven tiles.

● Keep going:
All letters played must touch at least one letter that is already on the board to
form at least one complete word. When one player has used all of their tiles or no
one can make any more words, the game ends.

● Challenge words:
Consult a dictionary when challenging. If the word isn't in the dictionary, the
player loses their turn. If the word is allowed, the challenger loses their turn.

● Calculate the scores:

Calculate each player's final score by adding up the points from all of their word
scores. Then, subtract the sum of their unplaced letters. If one player has used
up all of their letters, add the sum of everyone else's unplaced letters to their
score. The player with the highest score wins.

BENEFITS/REALIZATIONS GAINED FROM THE ACTIVITY

Recreational activities can be performed anywhere and anytime we want to. It can also be in a
form of daily activities, or something we love to do ever since. Most of the time, we just find
ourselves enjoying our recreational activities with the company of our family and friends.
Another realization I had was, in order to consider these as our recreational activities, it doesn’t
necessarily mean that we have to be good at them. One concrete example would be me, doing
these customizing. I’m not a designer, nor an artist, but I just simply enjoy/love doing it. Also,
these recreational activities do not only exist just to kill our time, they exist as our potential
hobbies and bring out our interests in life. These activities can also be a way for us to show our
love, through cooking we can express our love to share our food with others. Lastly, these
recreational activities help us build and strengthen the relationship we have with our family and
friends.
