1. Enumerate and discuss the salient provisions of the Treaty of Paris.

 In the Treaty of Paris in 1898, the Spaniards sold the Philippines to the
Americans for $20 million US dollars. That tells us that Spain is unconcerned
about the islands. Talk about colonizing the Philippines for the sake of the
Christian "God," and the US treated the entire situation as if it were a "sale,"
even though the Filipino army defeated the Spaniards in a war in 1896–1898.
The American ace is their navy. Admiral Dewey, commanding an "imperialist,"
destroyed the Spanish fleet and waited for army reinforcements in Manila Bay.
Furthermore, the Americans convinced the Filipinos that they would grant them
independence, which turned out to be a farce because the Americans refused
to allow the Filipino army to enter Manila.
 The Treaty of Paris officially brought the Spanish-American War to a close.
Puerto Rico and Guam were ceded to the United States, but it also sparked a
new war between the Philippines and the United States when an American
soldier shot and killed a Filipino, resulting in a four-year conflict. The American
government assured Spain, at its own expense, that all Spanish soldiers taken
as prisoners of war would be released and returned to their homeland. It also
stipulated that Spain would vacate the ceded territories following the Protocol of
Peace, which was signed on August 12, 1898, after the treaty was ratified. The
same article also confirmed that properties belonging to Spain's naval forces in
ceded territories would remain Spanish property.
 The key provisions of the Treaty of Paris guaranteed both nations access to the
Mississippi River, defined the boundaries of the United States, called for the
British surrender of all posts within U.S. territory, required payment of all debts
contracted before the war, and an end to all retaliatory measures against
loyalists and their property.

2. What is/are the relevance of the Political Caricatures of the American Era in
understanding the grand narrative of Philippine History?

 Political cartoons serve as primers for engaging in current events. One positive
effect of political cartoons is that they become a representation of our country's
current situation.
 Through these cartoons, future generations will be able to see a glimpse of
Philippine society in the past. It also serves as a research and reference tool for
future generations.
 People can visualize politics and appreciate representations that are relevant to
their worldview by using political cartoons.
