Science, Grade 9
1ST QUARTER – Week 1, Day 1, MELC 1

School: Lapayon National High School Grade Level: Grade 9

Teachers: Jury A. Magbanua Learning Area: Earth Science

Teaching Dates and Quarter: 1

Time:

A. Content Standard The Learner’s demonstrate understanding of: 

the relationship among the locations of volcanoes, earthquake epicenters, and
mountain ranges
B. Performance Standard The Learner’s should be able to:
1. demonstrate ways to ensure disaster preparedness during earthquakes,
tsunamis, and volcanic eruptions,
2. suggest ways by which he/she can contribute to government efforts in
reducing damage due to earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanic eruptions
C. Learning Competencies The Learner’s should be able to:
1. Describe and relate the distribution of active volcanoes, earthquake
epicenters, and major mountain belts to plate tectonic theory (S10ES-
Ia-j-36.1)
D. Objectives The learners shall be able to:
a. differentiate the layers of the earth based on its composition,
b. label the earth’s interior with its corresponding name, properties, and
composition,
c. appreciate the importance of the knowledge about the Earth’s
interior.

c. Checking of Attendance
d. Quick “Kamustahan”
A. Reviewing previous lesson Refer to the attachment below Diagnostic test
or presenting the new lesson
B. Establishing a purpose for 1. The learners will be asked with the Formative assessment
the lesson following question/s

What are the layers of the Earth?

Do you know the composition of each

layer of the earth?

Draw the earth’s layer on the board

and you may allow the learners to
write their answers on the board.

C. Presenting Discuss to learners the Layers of the Formative assessment

examples/instances of the Earth and its composition
new lesson
(Elicit)
D. Discussing the new The learners will differentiate the layers Formative Assessment: Critical
concepts and practicing new of the Earth based on its properties and thinking/Group discussion/
skills #1 composition by performing the Activity 2: cooperative learning
(Engage) Our Dynamic Earth on page 52 of the
textbook.

E. Discussing new concepts

and practicing new skills #2
(Explore)
F. Developing mastery (Leads Check and discuss learners’ answers in Formative Assessment
to Formative Assessment 3) the guide questions from the activity they
(Explain) have performed on page 53
G. Finding practical Do you find this knowledge about the Group Discussion
applications of concepts and Earth’s Interior important?
skills in daily living
(Elaborate) How will you share these learnings to
others to appreciate the Earth’s Interior?

H. Making generalizations Differentiate the Earth’s Interior based on Journal writing (reflection)
and abstractions about the their properties and composition.
lesson
Possible answer:
Oxygen is the most abundant element in
the Earth’s crust. The elements silicon,
oxygen, iron and magnesium make up
the mantle.
The inner core is mostly made up of iron
and nickel. It is solid due to the very high
pressure that keeps it compacted
together even if the temperature is really
very high.

I. Evaluating learning See attachments below

work? No of learners who
have caught up with the
lesson
D. No. of learners who
continue to require
remediation
