First Baptist Church Naples

Love in Action
I am often asked how God moved us from a large, established church in West Texas to what was then a small work here in Naples. Our guest speaker today, Dr. Jim Henry, was used as Gods chosen instrument. A cherished friend from the early 80s, I had often sought Jim for counsel during his long tenure as pastor of First Baptist Church of Orlando. In the spring of 1991, at a pastors meeting, I shared with him my hearts desire to leave the Bible Belt someday and develop a truly New Testament ministry from the ground up. When the Search Committee asked, Brother Jim for advice later on, he recommended me. After much prayer and discussion, the Naples folks and the Wickers said, It seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us (Acts 15:28). Jim Henry is widely known, not only as a wonderful communicator, but perhaps the most loving pastor that anyone has ever known. God used him to build First Baptist Orlando into a great church which has touched the world, and as a President of the Southern Baptist Convention. He was named Floridian of the Year in 1997. We are delighted to have him here for the first time since the early 90s, as our family spends vacation time in Colorado. I always seek to bring in the best possible preachers. Jim has prayed for our church all these years and rejoiced to see our growth. Thank you for allowing me this time to not only recharge my batteries but also to have more quality time with the family. Love is a verb more than a noun. One way to put love in action is to reach out to teenagers. We will be taking our students to High School Camp (July 26 31) and our 5th & 6th graders and later the 7th & 8th graders to another camp in August. You can provide a scholarship for a needy teen through a generous gift of $320 for a high school student and $280 for a middle schooler. Many will never have the opportunity to go to camp and this wonderful bonding time with the youth pastors, the students, and the Lord unless they receive help. Please mark your check or envelope, Summer Camp, and place it in the offering plate or send it to the church office. My own life testifies to the difference that such a week can make in a persons life. After all, when Jesus re-commissioned Peter at the lake, He asked him, Do you love me more than these? He then urged, Tend My lambs (John 21:15). Now thats really loving!

Wednesday, July 13 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Beginning July 20, we launch into our second Summer Study, Doing the Right Thing.

Every Wednesday 6:30 p.m. in the Worship Center

Our culture is disintegrating. Greed, corruption, fraud, deceit, and scandals populate the headlines. How have we gotten to this point? Doing the Right Thing explores the ethical and moral breakdown that is assaulting our culture from all sides. During our six week study, we will cover topics like, How did we get in this mess in the first place,Is there truth, a moral law we all can know?If we know what is right, can we do it? and more. Each week as we approach the topic at hand, we will do so by first laying down the fundamental truths we find in the Word of God. We hope you will join us on this journey that will give Biblical instruction and insight on where we are as a culture and what we must do to effect real change. from the Taylors and the Faircloths
The Taylor and Faircloth families would like to say a BIG thank you for the pounding we received on June 25th. The food and gift cards are a very big help to our two families. Your love is so evident and we appreciate the kindness you have extended to us. We are excited to be here and look forward to what God will do as we join hands with you in ministry to see students follow Christ. Sincerely, The Faircloth family The Taylor family

Thank You

Its summer time in Southwest Florida...time to relax, take a few deep breaths, and calm down for a few months. However, your Great Commission Connection missionaries dont have that luxury. They are still working hard out there in the world spreading the gospel. Please dont forget to connect with your Great Commission Connection missionaries as you are relaxing this summer. If your Change the World bank is full, you may make your deposit at the Lighthouse Bookstore (during regular operating hours), the Media Ministry Counter (during regular operating hours), or the Fellowship Hallway Depository (available at all times during the week, Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. and before/after all worship services and events). Simply use the black marker provided and enter your name and your change bank number on the plastic deposit bag label provided, open the change bank from the bottom and deposit the change into the plastic deposit bag, remove adhesive strip from the back of the plastic deposit bag, close the flap making sure bag is sealed, and drop the plastic deposit bag into the depository at your selected location. After making your deposit, KEEP THE BANK and continue to collect your change for the Great Commission Connection. Remember, each dollar from your Change the World bank goes directly to our Cooperative Program to aid in the funding of over 11,000 national and international missionaries. These dollars also help fund state and local missions efforts, as well as the training of thousands of students in our six Southern Baptist Seminaries.

From the cradle to college, tell your sons and grandsons the truth about life before they believe the cultures lies. 1. Dont define manhood by the cultures wimpy standards. Its OK to be a man! 2. What you dont learn to conquer may become your master. 3. Not everyones doing it! (And other naked truths about sex you wont hear in the locker room.) 4. Boyhood is only for a season. P.S. Its time to grow up! 5. Godly men are in short supply. Dare to become one!

Renegades for Christ Street Ministry in Immokalee

In the Missions Kiosk this weekend in the Commons
The founder of this ministry is Lenny Gross, whose family has been a member of the First Baptist Church Immokalee for many years. In fact, Lennys grandfather was a cowboy for a rancher in this area prior to Immokalee even being a village. Renegades for Christ reaches out to the local population and migrant workers with a street ministry, block parties, and christian movies. At our street ministry, we feed the folks physically with a hot meal, and spiritually with the word of God. We witness to them, distribute Bibles, tracts, clothes, and fit people with reading glasses. Typically the preaching is done in both Spanish and Creole. Our goal is to evangelize Immokalee, reach the unsaved, and direct them to the local churches. Lastly, with our christian movie ministry, the audience will dictate the language and the type of movie we will show in order to capture the largest possible crowd. We offer sodas and fresh popcorn made at the location. If you would like to get more information about Renegades for Christ in Immokalee or sponsor any part of our work, please contact Peter Meili at 239-571-0422 or Lenny Gross at 239-872-8504.

Renegades for Christ is a ministry partner of the First Baptist Church Immokalee and all donations are tax deductible.
