This is the work of German street artist ALIAS. Florence Reidenbach

describes his work as follows:

[…] ALIAS’ stencil paintings are discreet. Both the chosen

spots in the streets, and the material he finds, are an integral
part of his work. He has a way of finding special spots that are
going to contribute to the expression alongside the image
itself. Conveying a very personal feeling he is dealing with.
Those spots are as unique as what he is depicting
.
The mural is located in Shahpur Jat which is an urban village in South
Delhi that can be regarded as representative of the larger economic
disparity that exists in 'globalised' Indian cities. It is a densely
populated community, almost hidden between two extremely posh
localities. The outer perimeter of the village now boasts of bars, cafes
and designer boutiques, while the interior still has hole-in-the-wall
enterprises, historically inhabited by the rural Jat community.

U N D E R S T A N D I N G (my take of the mural)
➢ There is a DIRECT EMOTIONAL IMPACT.
➢ The boy should be given a name, his own identity but all that defines him in the
current scenario is BODY, BODY, HEAD (his gunshot wounds, which will eventually
lead to his end.)
➢ The expression of the boy in the mural seems angry but his eyes convey a DEEP
SENSE OF SADNESS.
➢ His thinned lips wanting to speak, his almost balled up fists wanting to fight, his
defiant way of rolling up his pants, all of this shows DEFIANCE. The boy seems to
want peace but his inability to take the next step is the core of sadness in him.
➢ The kind of wall taken for the mural and the CONTEXTUAL SETTING around also
shows the deep and dark side of the boy with body, body, head. The boy stands out
from the dirt and garbage around him.
➢ It is art that makes us feel human suffering we can all relate to and that instills in
us both CONDOLENCE AND REVERENCE.
STORY WEAVING
Through the collage on the left, I wanted to depict the exact opposite of
THE BOY (HEAD, HEAD, BODY).

On the left, the reason for sadness does not come from the people, but it
comes because of the people. In this scenario, the people become the
onlookers and the world their broken muse. A threat is brewing within the
nine beings present that will be capable of destroying life itself.

I will be calling them THE DOOMED 9.

THE DOOMED 9 are standing with their backs to us, are they enjoying the
view of destroying the world, or are they just too scared to look us in the
eyes?
