These two brilliant and dedicated teachers by profession (retired), worked in the
field of catechism and members of the Anti-Trafficking Project, Mrs. Denia Banlat and Mrs.
Marion C. Babanto conducted a Symposium on Safeguarding and Protection of Vulnerable
Young Adults on September 9, 2022, held at Mahay IS Multipurpose Hall. This activity was
participated by the Grade VI-pupils and Grade VI Advisers.
The activity formally started with a prayer thru an audio-visual presentation. The
children were inspired by the video because it was an animated video of Jesus Christ giving a
cross to a child and told him to handle it with care. The prayer reminds us to follow His will,
and all our prayers will be granted accordingly.
Mrs. Banlat discussed her topics smoothly. She presented the forms of abused,
then asked the pupils if there has been an incident of abuse happened to them based on the
forms she discussed. She then stressed that if there were case occurred, it must be reported
immediately to their parents, teachers, or any in charge person as soon as possible. She also
gave an advised that, “Dili gyd mokuyog sa tao nga dili ninyo kaila, bisan pa hatagan mo sa
inyong gusto.” They should ask permission from their parents/guardians if they will go
anywhere.
The participants were so attentive and participative the whole duration of the
lecture. They were very happy learning those topics. Free snacks courtesy from the
facilitators were distributed to them at the end of the session.
The activity ended with a prayer. The pupils were asked to have a group pictorial
with the speakers/facilitators and their Advisers. Before leaving the venue, pupils were told to
put all their wrappers and cellophanes in the garbage bins.
III. Accomplishment:
Mahay Integrated (Elementary) School successfully conducted a Symposium on
Safeguarding and Protection of Vulnerable Young Adults. The speakers’ enough knowledge to
their assigned topics, and the positive attitudes among the participants lead to the success of
the activity. Twenty-five (25) grade VI pupils were selected by their class advisers to attend the
symposium.
V. Insights:
In this activity, we learned that vulnerable young adults are defined as children who
are unable to take care of protecting themselves and or lack of capacity to protect themselves
against any harm or exploitation or any reason. They should be kept safe, no matter the age,
gender, or religion.
