STEP 1
Build the platform frame by joining the 2x4 pieces as shown. Use 2 ½-inch screws and glue.

STEP 2
Attach the support braces for the platform as shown using 2 ½-inch screws and glue. You’ll
need to offset the two boards slightly so you can drive the middle screws in.

Attach the 1x4 platform slats as shown, using 1 ¼-inch screws and glue.

STEP 4
Set the miter saw to a 30º bevel and cut the top end of each 2x4 post as shown. Use 2 ½-inch
screws and glue to attach the posts to each corner of the platform.

STEP 5
Attach the 2x4 rails to the platform using 2 ½-inch screws and glue. Notice that these boards
will be flush with the top of the platform, so you’ll have a small gap underneath.

Use a jigsaw to notch out the two 2x4 center truss pieces as shown.

Find the midpoint in the rails and position the center truss pieces as shown. Attach with 2 ½-
inch screws and glue.

STEP 9
Set the miter saw at a 30º bevel, measure the length your rafters will need to be then cut the
ends at a 30º angle off square, parallel. It’s best to cut them long and dry fit, then cut as
needed, shaving off 1/8 inch at a time. Use 2 ½-inch screws and glue to attach the rafters to the
center truss and posts.

STEP 10
Measure, mark, cut and attach the rafters inside headers with 2 ½-inch screws and glue. Notice
the boards are cut at a different angle at each end: a 45º angle at the bottom and a 15º angle at
the top. Once again, for the most precise fit, it is best to measure, mark, and cut to fit.

Attach the 2x2 roof support rails with 2 ½-inch screws and glue. Notice that these boards are
attached at a slight angle, to follow the slant of the roof line.

Drop the 2x4 ridge into the notched trusses and attach with 2 ½-inch screws and glue.

STEP 13
Attach the side slats as shown, with 1 ¼-inch screws and glue. Each slat is spaced 1 inch apart.
*Tip: Cut a 1-inch thick scrap piece of wood to serve as a spacer so it’s more efficient to space
each slat without having to measure each time.

Attach the back slats in the same way as you did the side slats, with 1 ¼-inch screws and glue.

STEP 15
Cut the roof slats as shown. One end will be cut at a 30º bevel so that the boards will meet at
the middle nicely.
STEP 16
Attach the roof slats with 1 ¼-inch screws and glue, spacing each slat ¾-inches apart. Use a
scrap piece of 1x wood to serve as a spacer. There should be a 1 ½-inch overhang on the front
and back and a 3-inch overhang on both sides.
