ELECTRONIC AGE
(1930'S TO 1980'S)

ELECTRONIC AGE
The invention of the transistor ushered in the electronic age.
People harnessed the power of transistors that led to the
transistor radio, electronic circuits, and the early computers. In
this age, long distance communication became more efficient.
Claude Elwood
Shannon
He is regarded as the father of modern
digital communication and information
theory. He was one of the most outstanding
scientists of the 20th century. His work in
the 1940s served as the foundation for
digital communication technology.
1.
What format/equipment did
people use to communicate
with each other?
Cellphone
(1973)
The invention of the first mobile phone is
credited to Motorola, the company that
released the first commercially available
handheld phone.

This made communication quickerand

easier as people were better able to
communicate through making and
receiving calls.
ENIAC or Electronic
Numerical Integrator
and Computer (1945)
The ENIAC I was created in 1946 by John Mauchly,
a chief consultant, and John Presper Eckert, a chief
engineer (Electronic Numerical Integrator and
Calculator).
Their research was funded by the US military, who
needed a computer to calculate artillery-firing
tables, which are the settings used for different
weapons under different conditions to ensure target
accuracy.
COMPUTERS
The Apple I

In 1976, engineer Steve Wozniak, while working at HP, built

the Apple-1 computer from scratch. He finished his work in
March 1976. Together with Steve Jobs and Ronald G.
Wayne, both working for Atari, they founded the company
Apple Computer that would make history and change the
world.

The Apple II

When it debuted in 1977, the Apple II was promoted as an

extraordinary computer for ordinary people. The user-
friendly design and graphical display made Apple a leader
in the first decade of personal computing.
Mainframe Computer

(1930)
Though there was no mainframe inventor, Howard Aiken, a
Harvard researcher, developed the first mainframe in the 1930s.
He proposed the creation of a large-scale calculator capable of
solving non-linear equations.
The first commercial mainframe computers, which took up an
entire room, were developed in the early 1950s. Large
organizations, both commercial and governmental, use mainframe
computers for census, industry, and consumer statistics, payroll
and accounts payables/receivables processing, and transaction
processing.
Videotape Recorder
(1951)
In 1951, Amplex hired inventor Charles Paulson
Ginsburg, also known as the "father of the video
cassette recorder." Ginsburg had the opportunity to
lead the research team that developed the first
broadcast-quality videotape recorder (VTR).
The VTR is credited with transforming television
broadcasting. Television signals were the first tape-
recorded shortly after World War II when audio tape
recorders were used to record the extremely high-
frequency signals required for television. To achieve
a high-frequency response, these early machines were
pushed to their limits, running the tape at speeds of
up to 240 inches per second.
EDSAC or Electronic
Delay Storage Automatic
Calculator (1941)

EDSAC is an early British computer considered to be the first stored-

program electronic computer and inspired by John von Neumann's. It
was created at the University of Cambridge in England in the year 1941
by a team lead by the late Professor Sir Maurice Wilkes immediately and
performed its first calculation on May 6, 1949. As head of the
Mathematics Laboratory, Wilkes` mission is to provide "mechanical"
aids that help mathematicians, scientists, and engineers at the university
perform complex calculations and time-consuming. Also, it was the
computer that ran the first graphical computer game nicknamed " Baby
".
2.
What format/ equipment did
people use to store
information?
Computer
1945

The electronic age refers to this

critical manufacturing factor,
often known as the digital
revolution. The main component
to store information is the
computer. Computers are used
in information storage and
transmission, the period was
also called the information age.
Floppy Disk
1971

Floppy disks were the

primary source for the
installation of programs.
FLASHDRIVE

A SMALL ELECTRONIC
DEVICE CONTAINING
FLASH MEMORY THAT IS
USED FOR STORING DATA
OR TRANSFERRING IT TO
OR FROM A COMPUTER,
DIGITAL CAMERA, ETC.
MERMORY CARD

A memory card is
an electronic data
storage device used
for storing digital
information,
typically using
flash memory.

Personal Computer (Apple I) - 1974

The personal computer, this is called

personal computer because it is
designed for one user at a time. This
computer can can process limited
computation due to its limited memory
capacity however it is cheaper than
mainframe computer that is why it
became popular to schools and small
businesses. The industry of PC or
personal computer began in late 1970s.
OHP and LCD Projectors - 1940

The OHP and LCD Projectors these are

devices that use optical mechanism that are
utilized to project images or videos on a
screen or flat surface these were used in
presentation and took place in the academy
for its usefulness in lectures. These were
created and being developed in 1940s. and
up to now, as according to to website JmGo'
in the last couple of decade manufactures
have defined the projector technologies for
building realistic image qualities.
