Semiotic Plane

The instant gratification by Rodel Tapaya an Acrylic on canvas that measures 243.84 x 335.28 cm
and is now at Ayala Museum Manila. It is one of Rodel Tayapa's most well-known works,  which due to
the visual aspects shown in the artwork, is a display of the selfish perspective of individuals. The scene in
which the monkeys steal the fruits from the labor of the turtles demonstrates that they do not care
whether they lower others; as long as they benefit from you, they will manipulate you.

Iconic

- The focal point of this artwork is the Filipinos' greed, as it can be observed throughout the painting.
The vending machine, which we may refer to as a lottery, is where people believe their wager will win,
and it becomes their addiction. Similar to the group of monkeys that gained from the turtle's labor,
those who are addicted to gambling fail to recognize that others are gaining money off of them. These
representations illustrate the true nature of our world, in which the rich become wealthier and the poor
become poorer. As a result of their belief in instant gratification where they will win faster, that's  why
they have a miserable life. Elements of the image, including the logs and the monkeys, illustrate the
corrupt condition of our world.

Contextual Plane

The gr gratification is a visual representation of the modern mindset of the majority of Filipinos. In my
analysis of this picture, Instant Gratification conveys three major topics: the greed of the people, the
unwillingness to speak the truth, and the injustice committed against those without the ability to fight. I
can say this because, for instance, in the log of trees, you can see eyes but no mouths, which may be
understood as many people observing the corrupt actions of others but being too terrified to speak out,
so they prefer to remain silent. In conclusion, this picture reflects the attitude of the majority of
Filipinos. Those who know the truth are reluctant to speak up because they cannot do so, which is why
the number of corrupt people is increasing every day.

Evaluative

- Rodel Tayapa uses acrylic in his paintings, which, based on my observations, displays a high
degree of skill. The artwork demonstrates his creativity as he blends numerous elements. As I
conclude, I want to explain that this is still occurring today, due to people believing in instant
gratification which can lead to crimes such as drug trafficking, murder, etc. resulting in deaths.
We can see that there are still people who rely on instant success; their mind believes that it is
simple to get wealthy, and they have hope in instant success, which distracts them from more
important goals and leads to a terrible life.
