Course Code and Title : PE003 - Individual Dual Sports and Games
Pre-requisite : Physical Education 1
Credit/ Class Schedule : 2 units (36hrs)
COURSE DESCRIPTION: The emphasis of the subject has been on physical, social,
personal discipline and develop sportsmanship for all students as well as on the development of
potential athletes who are physically gifted and inclined to strengthen the student’s interest in sports
and to provide a working knowledge of the rules, techniques and strategies, principles, and basic
skills as well as terms used in the various games and sports.
COURSE objectives:
At the end of the semester, students should be able to:
1. Gain knowledge and appreciation of the individual-dual sport as part of their Physical Education
subjects.
2. Develop a foundational level of skill and an appreciation for their involvement in individual-dual
sports to be used as lifetime recreational activities
3. Possess a clear understanding of the concepts and knowledge of individual-dual sports
4. Identify one’s understanding of the rules and skills required in their participation in individual-
dual sports

• Students who are not enrolled in Google Classroom will not be considered as enrolled in the
course.
• Activities must be submitted in Google Classroom only.
• Late submission of activities will have a deduction to their score and can only be accepted until
Examination week.
Aside from academic deficiency, other grounds for a failing grade are:
• Failure to comply with the requirements of the course.
• A failing academic standing and failure to take the major practical examination.
• Grave Misconduct and or cheating during examinations
Consultation Hours:
Consultations and queries will be entertained during class hours and in group messenger only.
The instructor will lend few minutes to answer all of it during your scheduled class time.

OVERVIEW:
This module is here to guide you in your PE003 / Physical Education 3 subject. It is designed to live a
healthy and active lifestyle by engaging yourself in doing sports (Taekwondo). This is also one way of
promoting and preserving sports cultures.
In this module, you can explore the history of Taekwondo not only in sports but also in our life. It
provides you an insight into its rules and regulations, principles, basic concepts, fundamental skills as
well as the terms used in the game. It also offers you different techniques in executing well the skills.
And it will give you a lot of activities that will make you active as well as creative while exploring the
discipline of Taekwondo.
Moreover, this module provides you with objectives and an activity calendar that will serve as your
guide to finish all the tasks and activities you need to comply with within this course.
What is Taekwondo?
- Is one of the most systematic and scientific Korean traditional martial arts that teaches more
than physical fighting skills. It is a discipline that shows ways of enhancing our spirit and training
our body and mind. Taekwondo evolves on a solid base, mixing the traditional and the modern.
The values recognized by practitioners and partners are the strength of the sport Taekwondo.
Meaning of Taekwondo
- Is unarmed Korean martial arts and Olympic sports.
Tae – means to kick
Kwon – means to punch
Do – means the art or way

Mission
Develop and grow Taekwondo throughout the world, from a grass roots level all the way through to
an elite level, to provide all with the opportunity to play, watch and enjoy the sport regardless of age,
gender, religion, ethnicity or ability
- Sep. 18-20, 2001 (IOC EB Meeting in Lausanne): Expansion of Taekwondo quota at Athens
2004 Olympic Games to 124 in eight weight categories, respective four weight classes for men
and women,
- February 5-7, 2006: IOC Executive Board decided at its meeting in Turin, Italy to expand the
number of taekwondo entries in Beijing 2008 Olympic Games from 124 to 128 (two males and
two females were added in consideration of the new establishment of Oceania Taekwondo
Union).
- November 29, 2002 on the 114th IOC Session held in Mexico City, Mexico: IOC Executive Board
decided the number of sports programs of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games to be 27, including
Taekwondo.
- on July 8, 2005 at its 117th Session in Singapore: IOC reviewed the Olympic program for 2012
London, Taekwondo was voted to retain in the Olympic Program of the London 2012 Olympic
Games
- on Oct. 2-9, 2009 at its 121st Session in Copenhagen: IOC selected 26 core sports for the 2016
Rio Olympic Games, including taekwondo
- on Sept. 7-10, 2013 at its 125th Session in Buenos Aires: IOC confirmed taekwondo as one of
the 25 core sports for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games
- on January 30 - February 1, 2015 at the 69th IPC Governing Board meeting held in Abu Dhabi,
UAE: IPC's final decision on the sports programs of the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics, including
taekwondo
Purpose
To contribute to the development of our people by imploring values, enhancing their skills through
constant practice, and living the spirit of the martial arts through the psychology of sports.
To gain honors for the Philippines through international competitions while acting as ambassadors of
friendship and goodwill.
Tenets of Taekwondo
Self-confidence - oneself in one’s power and ability.
Modesty - the quality of not being too proud about yourself or your abilities.
Indomitable spirit - impossible to possible.
Perseverance - the quality that allows someone to continue trying to do something even though
it's difficult.
Etiquette - rules indicating the proper way to behave.
HOW TO BOW
STEP1: stand at attention (char-yeot position); straight your back; eyes in front; arms at the side with
fist hand.
STEP2: bend forward and head down until you see the floor.
STEP3: return to the char-yeot position
NOTE: bowing takes 5 seconds only from the char-yeot position, bend forward & char-yeot position
again.

Kyorugi & Poomsae
The competition area is a minimum of 10m x 10m to a maximum of 12m x 12m. At the center of the competition,
the area is an octagonal-shaped contest area. The contest area measures 8m in diameter and each side of the
octagon is 3.3m long. Between the outer line of the competition area and the boundary line of the contest area is
the safety area.
Poomsae
- The set of sequence of movements that consist of the various fundamental taekwondo stances,
blocks punch, strikes, and kicks logically arranged in meaningful order and response to attacks
from multiple imaginary attackers.

1. Free kicking – is an event highlighting the speed, stamina, and creativity of kyorugi athletes
executing many kyorugi techniques involving body kicks, head kicks, turning kicks, jumping
kicks, and proper punch in a given period.
