Generally, you are expected to write a response a few sentences long.
Summarise: when a question asks you to summarise something, this means (like “outline”) only
giving the main points. Generally, you are expected to write a response a few sentences long.
3. Define network topology and summarise four main types of network topologies.
5. Explain the concept of a network protocol and the relationships to operating systems.
8. Explain radio frequency identification (RFID) and give one example of RFID hardware and one
example of RFID software.
10. Explain the concept of a compatibility issues, giving an example that includes the issue and
how to resolve it. Your example should be relevant to ICT networks.
11. Summarise the process of configuring an IP address on an IP network and explain its
importance.
12. Explain the concept of an operating system and give two examples.
13. Explain the concept of a desktop application and give two examples.

Assessment criteria
For your performance to be deemed satisfactory in this assessment task, you must satisfactorily
address all of the assessment criteria. If part of this task is not satisfactorily completed, you will be
asked to complete further assessment to demonstrate competence.
Resubmission opportunities
You will be provided feedback on your performance by the assessor. The feedback will indicate if
you have satisfactorily addressed the requirements of each part of this task.
If any parts of the task are not satisfactorily completed, the assessor will explain why, and provide
you with written feedback along with guidance on what you must undertake to demonstrate
satisfactory performance. Reassessment attempt(s) will be arranged at a later time and date.
You have the right to appeal the outcome of assessment decisions if you feel that you have been
dealt with unfairly or have other appropriate grounds for an appeal.
You are encouraged to consult with the assessor prior to attempting this task if you do not
understand any part of this task or if you have any learning issues or needs that may hinder you
when attempting any part of the assessment.
The first part of this assessment requires you to meet with the client (your assessor)
to discuss their needs in relation to the ICT network, as well as the specifications for
the proposed network.
At the meeting, you will need to:
During the meeting, you are required to demonstrate effective communication skills
including:
Following the meeting you are to develop the ICT Network Architecture Design as
per the discussions held at the meeting.
Determine the technical requirements of the ICT Network Architecture Design,
including hardware, software and network elements as per the specifications
provided at the meeting.
Then develop a diagram of your proposed design.
Document your findings and diagram in Preliminary ICT Network Architecture
Design Report.
Your report should include:
An outline of the hardware, software and network elements that will make up
the design, as well as potential suppliers of, and costs of each of these
elements. Include at least two recommendations for each hardware, software
and network element you recommend and associated technical specifications,
as well as costs.
Predicted current and future traffic demands and how the network will perform
You are required to incorporate the feedback from your assessor on your
preliminary design and incorporate this into your report.
Complete a final check on your ICT Network Architecture Design to ensure it meets
all performance and business requirements.
At the same time you are to complete the following additional activity:
Determine the support and training requirements that will be required to ensure
your design is implemented as effectively as possible. Add a section to your
Final ICT Network Architecture Design about the support and training that will
be required.
Submit your Final ICT Network Architecture Design Report to the client (your
assessor) via email. In your email you should request approval of your final design.
