2020 RESEARCH REPORT
FOREWORD
The University of Ibadan 2020 Research Report, the 10 edition since 2010,
chronicles the outputs of researchers in the University for the year 2020. It
highlights the high quality researches carried out by the university's
academics, both locally and internationally, aimed at proffering solutions to
the issues affecting the human race. The research works center on problems,
such as climate change, food security, poverty eradication, national and global
security, HIV/AIDS, Public Health Issues, COVID-19, sustainable
development and corruption.
The University of Ibadan was ranked in the 501-600 category. This is our best
showing since THE World University rankings
started in 2004.
PREFACE
I feel humbled and elated to write the 2020 Preface for The
University of Ibadan Research Report which is presented on the
platform of Innovative Translational Research Outputs (ITRO) and
uptake. The year 2020 presented a lot of challenges to researchers
and the general society due to the global Covid-19 pandemic,
resulting in lockdown, wearing of face mask and social distancing,
among others, which to a great extent affected research endeavours.
It is remarkable to note that the year ushered in a way of life known
as the “new normal,” which introduced new dimensions to every
facet of life. Researchers were either working remotely or skeletally. In the past years,
researchers in the University of Ibadan have been working tirelessly carrying out cutting-
edge research in order to sustain the University's legacy.
This edition of 2020 Annual Research Report features some researchers, who have
continued to distinguish themselves in spite of the global challenges, and impacted greatly
on the University and the general society. Also, a number of successes were recorded by
the University in terms of grants, virtual training, prizes, awards and recognitions. I want
to use this medium to encourage our Graduate Students and early career researchers not to
relent in their effort to carry out cutting-edge research that will impact the society.
I wish to express my profound gratitude to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. A. I. Olayinka, the
Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Kayode Adebowale, the Deputy Vice
Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Adebola Ekanola and the Deputy Vice Chancellor
(Research, Innovation and Strategic Partnerships), Prof. Olanike Adeyemo for providing
an enabling environment for our researchers and research administrators to thrive during
the onset of the pandemic.
Thank you all for your immense contributions towards making the University of Ibadan a
hub of research activities.
