Fast Fashion

The shady world of cheap clothing

All of us want to dress well and buy new clothes that are fashionable and trendy, it is

one of the biggest problems of humanity.

Fast fashion is the term used to describe clothing designs that the move quickly from

the catwalk to the stores, to take advantage of trends. The collections are often based on styles

present at fashion week celebrities. Everything has its cost and the fast fashion cost is higher

than is seems, below, How the fast fashion and fast industries affect the environment and the

health of the people in the other side of the world?

The real cost

Is a high cost to fast fashion, also is a huge business and one that does not appreciate

prying eyes, the textile industry has a huge environment impact 56 million tons sold every

year in clothes; all of this industry in special the textile is value in 3 trillion dollars. In 2030

the industry will expand in 60%. It is a high value in just 10 years.

The new trends generate more economy but additionally exploitation. However, the

fast fashion must be designed and made as quickly as possible, much less to stay long in our

closet.

The beginning and the end

Moreover, how could this be allowed or happen? The origin is a small store called Zara

that now have more than 2000 stores and is located in 100 countries; that offers 65 000 models

a year, every week there is something new that causes customers to visit the brand more times.

3
The Zara´s designers go to see the others brands to look at the new clothes and compete with

each other’s. In some cases, the products of different marks are the same because they try to

copy it and they sell it cheaper.

The publicity

The social media promote and advertises, the potential costumer are influencers and

famous people that they do not even wear the clothes or only once time. Also publicity is a

communication strategy that transmits the appraise of the brand, makes the product known,

teaches the customer, and gains the trust of the audience. Currently digital marketing is used,

with videos, posters, publications among others

Behind the low prices

The employees who produce the clothes are not as well paid or work in poor conditions

or that the qualities of the clothes are poor. The employees worked in almost enslaving

conditions receiving a pittance of salary in return.

The environment

Now the principal problem; the environment, is the second sector that most pollutes,

for one part one ton of fabric as we can it 200 tons of water polluted, the more commerce there

4
is the more pollution there is going to be without efficient filtration, if the fashion industry is

going to expand then we are going to get sixty percent more pollution.

The SC2

The SC2 (Carbon disulfide) is a chemical compound that helps make viscose, the

viscose is an organic liquid used in the manufacture of rayon and cellophane. It is a soft, light

fabric with a lot of drape that comes from cellulose (wood pulp from trees). The SC2

supposedly it´s friendly to the environment but it is completely false.

Eventually we need produce fashion friendly (Green Fashion) for the environment

because we pollute the water, air and the planet, also the quality of life is being and will be

affect not only the animals, the plants also the humankind.

Some groups dumped it´s waste in to the river for decades, the villages have no running water,

the only solution is to drink water harmful from the river, irrigate theirs crops with the same

contaminate water.

Change mindset: Slow Fashion

Slow fashion brands are committed to creating limited collections made in an artisanal and

sustainable way in order not to harm the planet as much as possible. They try to improve of

the quality of the clothing and usually look for a design that can continue to be used for many

years without going out of style or breaking. The prices are higher but they make that

investment worthwhile.

Under one present of our clothing can be recycled, every year four million tons of

textiles end up in the trash in Europe and around the world.

There are small brand supporting slow fashion, clothes of a higher fairer and more sustainable

quality.

Finally, everything is in our hands and the future depends on us, if we don´t do

something the fast fashion will never go away.
