Apprentice Town Planner Job Profile
Job Purpose
To assist in providing support to all Planning Officers, Planning Team Leaders, Planning Managers,
including those in the Planning Policy and Planning Compliance teams in all aspects of planning and
related planning functions. Typically provides advice, information and decisions to external customers
and provides support to teams working on larger projects involving a variety of stakeholders.

The Selection Criteria for the post should include qualifications, relevant experience,
skills/abilities and styles/behaviours essential to perform the post
Selection Criteria
Criterion
A 5 GCSE’s grade C/4 or above, including Maths and English; as well as having achieved
or be expected to achieve relevant university admission requirements:
- 3 A’Levels, grade BCC;
- BTEC National Diploma MMM;
- Town Planning Technical Support Apprenticeship – Level 3 Diploma;
- Equivalent Level 3 qualifications worth 106 UCAS points.
B An understanding of and interest in planning (shaping the places where we live and
work, and looking at things from different points of view), and a willingness to develop
knowledge and experience in the various planning disciplines.
D Good organisational and time management skills and be able to organise and prioritise
workloads to strict deadlines with minimum supervision.
E Good oral and written communication skills (including adept use of English grammar,
spelling and punctuation).
G Driving licence and ability to travel around the Borough and visit a range of sites and
meet applicants unsupervised.
