Mass Media
1 2
High-speed Internet has contributed positivity throughout the pandemic. It has
helped people connect with their loved ones when lockdowns were initiated,
3
and soon after, jobs start to introduce 'work-from-home' concept which highly
depends on mass media platforms. Mass media is also where teenagers and
4
adults alike interact with virtual communities across the globe and has proven
5
to give an impact to teenagers. Mass media greatly in uences teenagers today
6 7
which increases social awareness, higher interaction rate, but it also poses
8
high risk of scams.

Firstly, teenagers gain an increase in their social awareness through mass

media. The many platforms of social media made it easier for anyone to upload
a post to be seen by the world through social media and the majority of users
9
are teenagers. Take for example, the saddening news of Her Majesty Queen
10
Elizabeth II's passing was announced through mass media from television,
radio and social media. People across the globe received the news quickly and
it proves that social awareness even among teenagers increases with the help
11
of mass media. Therefore, mass media has increase and in uences teenagers
12
in social awareness.

13
Next, mass media promotes higher interaction rate among teenagers.
Teenagers start to invest their time by creating server rooms on Discord, Twitch
and many other platforms to interact with their virtual community. These
14
servers also allow them to do a live-stream of games they are playing as well as
interact with their subscribers around the world. Through Twitch streams,

teenagers are also able to gain donations from subscribers or even getting paid
by Twitch as an incentive. Therefore, the higher interaction rate through mass
media platforms in uences teenagers in their social interactions.

However, there are cons to mass media. Teenagers are at high risk of getting
1
scammed while they are on mass media platforms. We have all heard of 'Macau
17
Scam' and 'Love Scam' across several countries which impacts the livelihood of
the victim. Scammers do anything they can do to get money out from their
victims and with little to no supervision by adults, teenagers could easily fall
18
victim into these scams. Therefore, the mass media poses a threat to teenagers
with this scam.

19 20 21
As a conclusion, the mass media has its advantages than its disadvantages. It
22
has helped the world connect and made communication easier especially
among teenagers in the age of digitalisation.
